I'm a huge sci-fi fan, which is basically the only reason I bought this game at first. I'd never played Civ before, and as such it took me a small amount of time to get into the mechanics. After a while, however, I got a firm grasp of it and actually started using the technologies available to my advantage. And that's where this game shines, the technologies you're able to unlock to steer your off-world colony's civilization into a certain direction. That, combined with the fact that it looks awesome and runs surprisingly well on my 5 year old laptop makes this one of my absolute favorite games.
