For me, this feels like the real successor to Railroad Tycoon and Sid Miers' Railroads, and strikes a better balance between the two (Tycoon trying to be more realistic, and Railroads having more of an arcade feel). The routing of trains is realistic but not so difficult that you spend the whole game managing traffic. The locomotive choices are focused on an earlier time-frame which is a serious win from my perspective... The myriad of different 4-4-0s in the game show just how much attention to detail went into this and gives it a definite AMERICAN flair. Maps are beautiful, and have my home-town of Augusta GA on it!

I LOVE THIS GAME, but I hate this game... Case in point: I've died more times from chopping up fallen trees than being killed by an enemy.

I played the heck out of the original Cossacks. They set out to make a remake, and they have succeeded completely in my book. I just played an hour against the AI, and it felt just like old times... down to the "Oh no, I'm getting swarmed" feeling, haha ;-).

I love the simplicity of the controls and the depth of strategy that takes place in this game. I would have liked a little flexibilty on skirmishers, as whole units would have had the option to deploy as skirmishers during the war, but other than that I had the level of control I needed to effectively command the army. I love the way the artillery is done as well... they play a critical role but one can easily hid from enemy guns if need-be.... It's all about gun placement. Overall: Brilliant game-play.
