Halo might be the very first video game I ever played, and I fell in love with everything it had to offer for 10+ years straight. No game series means quite so much to me. I haven't bought into "hype" for a game since the original MCC launch on Xbone, and I didn't even own the console. Halo Infinite had me so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hyped. I helped in the flights for the game, waited what felt like ages for the download on November 15th, and I genuinely enjoyed playing the game for it's gameplay. It didn't have much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the way Halo 4 and Halo 5 did, it was a lot more grounded in the things I love about Halo.

But that is where the good stuff ends. The challenges are God awful, you cannot play for fun and play to unlock armour at the same time. They really are mutually exclusive. Unless you get lucky with your challenges, and they're something like "Get Pistol kills" or "Get AR kills" since you spawn with those weapons. When you have the challenge "Shotgun kills" you need to:
1. Find it's spawn, not too tough, but time consuming. Sometimes, the map variant you are on won't even have the weapon you need.
2. Grab it or wait for it to spawn. (Or leave the match and queue again to hopefully have it spawn on the map this time)
3. Find an enemy that will not be impossible to kill with said weapon.
So those three steps probably just took you at least 2-5 minutes, depending on lots of things, but you still need to win the battle, and make sure you don't accidentally melee to finish the kill! If you lose the battle, you need to restart from square one and go run to the damned shotgun spawn again. It's not fun.

Add in the fact that some of your teammates could have the exact same challenge as you, and therefore you are directly competing with your teammates over something that does not even matter as far as the match at hand goes. It's just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ design for a cancerous system.

You can't pick your gamemode, so good luck getting oddball for your challenge in the first place, and I pity you if you actually NEED to win the match, let alone multiple of them. Need vehicle kills? Hopefully not with a banshee, most cases it will only spawn twice in the whole game. Good luck getting it before your teammate, and you had best pray there is no enemy with a grapple hook nearby. That would be frustrating, after you just spent 40% of the match waiting for one specific thing.

So far, I've only talked about the armour progression system. That's not mentioning the other plethora of issues this game has. Microtransactions are expected in a F2P game, but good lord this game is exceptionally egregious. Do you like custom games? I hope you also like recreating your favourite game types EVERY TIME you want to play them, because this game couldn't launch with a feature that has been in EVERY Halo since day 1 - saving game types. Pretty simple ♥♥♥♥. Do you enjoy playing Coop campaign? Don't bother here, the campaign isn't worth the price and coop probably won't even get added for another 6 months at this rate. I don't know what the community would even do with Forge, because if 343 can't save a simple game type, how the hell do you expect them to save your custom map you spent dozens of hours working on? Don't waste your time.

It blows my mind how they had it so damn right, but then took the game, threw it in a dumpster, poured gasoline on it and lit it on fire like they wanted it to be DOA. I am curious as to the sales stats for the season 1 battle pass vs the season 2 battle pass. I can't imagine the second one sold half as well as the first. There's so much more I could say, but it wouldn't be worth my time.
Hell, this wasn't worth my time.

The only thing that will get me to play this game again now are coop campaign and forge, but I'm not holding my breath for them like I had been for the game itself. Thankfully, Halo has the MCC to live on, and soon it will have workshop support. I'm more excited for that, than I am for Halo Infinites forge. And I love making forge maps.

I had a fair amount of fun with this game, but I cannot say I recommend it because of how brutally bad the Co-Op was in my experience. The last two times I tried to play this game were both with friends, and both times were a complete waste of time. The second time I tried to play Co-Op I was so disappointed in the experience that I uninstalled the game as a reminder to myself to not waste any more time with this game. Single player was ok but it got old pretty quickly.
