Top tier game with plenty to do. Intricate economies and multiple roles to fill. Highly recommend.

Worse in nearly every way when compared to the original, but I suppose now you can build pools that no guest will ever use

More tedium, less fun gameplay, significantly more bugs.

Update May 2025:

This game is still not fun. I don't know how they made the sequel so much worse than the original with so little changes, but the game feels lacking in nearly every way compared to the original. Building is simultaneously less deep and more frustrating.

Despite being old and ugly, this game is still better than it's sequel in many ways with an addicting gameplay loop

One of my favorite simulation games.

Fully-featured in nearly every way, this game has tons of replayability. But what really sets this game apart is the support for mods, that really puts it over the edge into a top-tier management game.

Destruction is amazing, Competitive objective based multiplayer? I really enjoy this game

Boring visually, overly demanding, and not great to look at.

Thought the previous three 3Dmark tests were better looking despite being much older. This is a rather boring test without any eyecandy and doesn't seem to be a good benchmark as well.

This is a regression

Computer Tycoon is very close to being a great game, however it fails in a few ways that make the game irritating, unintuitive, and leaves you wishing the game was just a bit different.

1. Base building is mindless button clicking that could have been entirely removed, replaced with a simple UI. In real life I don't need to have a level 3 break room to build a factory or warehouse. It's boring and does nothing but further along the inevitable carpal tunnel you will get from playing business simulation games.

2. Building individual parts of the computer seems like it will be amazing, but reality is this process leads almost nowhere. You can't sell your components to other vendors or individuals in any meaningful way (any way that makes significant money). You can't buy other companies products and use them to save money on R&D, making individual parts effectively just adds to a score that effects how good your product is versus how expensive it is. This is something that could have been amazing but in it's current state is just plain boring.

3. The actual business simulation is tedious and repetitive without being in-depth enough to make it worth the effort to play. Having to have Points to send products into certain countries, having research points, these are elements of a Board game that do not translate well into Computer Tycoon, at least in it's current implementation.

I will continue to play Computer Tycoon, but only because I am a Computer Enthusiast starved of any games that scratch a specific itch. If you are only mildly familiar with computers there are thousands of much better simulation games that involve any other number of businesses.

If I were to update this game, I would look at what Gear City (A Vehicle-based Business Simulation) does compared to Computer Tycoon. They both have the exact same type of Gameplay, but Gear City is Easier to Learn and yet simultaneously has an infinitely more complex Gameplay loop

Contracts for businesses, Being able to market, put your products in true competition with other companies, being able to build and sell individual parts to other companies as well as non-computer-related businesses and governments, being able to buy off-the-shelf parts from other companies and include them in your product, being able to easily see the history of your company, products, reception, etc. are all notably absent from Computer Tycoon.

I'd like to add that this game has been getting regular beta updates and appears to be in a better state now, with about half of my main gameplay issues being resolved. but the beta branch is unstable and I often have playthrough's where all of my competitors go bankrupt simultaneously. It is nearing a point where I would recommend it.

Shame, could have been good. Currently a bug-riddled mess
