People who say Garfield Kart isn't worthy of being called a racing game probably haven't played enough entries of the series in the first place, because like it or not, it has always been welcoming to gameplay changes: 3's job system, 4's active time battle, 6's espers, 7's limitbreak/materias, 8's GFs/junctions, 10's conditional turn-based battle system, 11's MMO, 12's active dimension battle/Zodiac job system and so on. Every design change brought different pros and cons, and unsurprisingly, each person's favorite entry wildly vary.

This time, there's little to no gear/job theory crafting (even less than GK1) and overall it is a much more linear experience — you're following a story through a set path instead of freely traveling across maps working for it to unfold as you develop your characters. This takes away some "seeing is believing" from the worldbuilding. But on the bright side, the visual presentation is amazing, combat gets more interesting with each eikon you obtain, cutscene direction is great and the boss fights are some of the best you're going to see in a spectacle fighter. It's up to you to decide whether or not the pros outweigh the cons in your case.

This game absolutely sucks. I pay £4, they make it free. I got to buy part 2 and they have raised the price. Terrible devs and horrible marketing for their future.
