First the problems: Nexus won't stfu, ruminating about the folly of humanity day in and day out. Some of it is exposition but a lot of it is just flowery BS, and I feel like the voice actor didn't understand the tone properly as a lot of dialogue sounds weird in his tone. Some lines feel like he was supposed to be less seductive and dramatic and more punk, the whole world feels like it's falling short of punk like that. "Give 'em hell" being your automated send-off message feels out of place with how robotic and simple things are presented. Like the writers and the developers had different visions. Then there's no motion blur setting, gave me a headache, it runs like it's having a heart attack but it's UE5 that's expected, and the sounds are so weird.

There's just not sound effects for a lot of things. You get "killed" in a cutscene by an enemy that makes no noise, hits you once and then silently stomps your face in. Most of the major cutscene sequences have no sound, just voices and music. It's weird and hard to get into it without any noise. Sound design is very important in sci-fi.

All that said, the gameplay is tight enough, the enemy design is cool and creative, the weapons are *very* satisfying, and the visual worldbuilding is great. The pistol is fine at first, but with the laser upgrade feels excellent, and the shotgun is very accurate compared to what you're used to from arena shooters like this, so it might catch you off guard.

Your character being launched out of a canon into combat in a ball is fun, the character design is alright, all in all very nice to look at and think about, fine to play, just...weird in certain places. Feels very unfinished, which it is so that's fair, and I really think they need to work on the dialogue it's almost insufferable how pretentious it sounds. It's not even that badly written, all considered, it's just how it's presented and how detached it seems to be from the world. Why is he telling her all of this? He's clearly had her for a while, sent her on missions before, did he just not tell her what she was doing or why for all that time?

So this is a no right now, bad performing, lacking certain QOL features, weird sound issues and some bad dialogue. But in time it could be something special. A real solid Doom 2016-like. I really like the aesthetics, it's like someone took a scoop out of every kind of generic sci fi and put it in a bowl. Which sounds bad, but "generic" becomes "generic" for a reason, because it's good and easy to fall back on and everyone wants to do it. So a bunch of it combined, while not necessarily striking, is very visually satisfying.

I only got this for one thing...

The greatest handgun ever made, the Colt Single Action Army...is kinda bad. Doesn't deal much damage, clunky and slow, it shows its age. But it's really fun to shoot! A lot of people complain about the reload time but that's part of the charm. Besides, I love to reload during a battle!

Don't play this game. You'll love it to death, and it'll break your heart.

Can you imagine? Can you imagine any other game, with a fan base lasting a decade, just after the tenth anniversary releasing an update that brings in thousands of new players. And then, with no announcement, no hint of it, not even the respect to tell a damn soul, they pull the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ plug. The update that was promised to follow never releases, and the game is left in limbo. A game lasting that long means something. And then to have it just abandoned? They didn't even wrap up the story. They left it on a cliffhanger. As if they were going to. As if it meant that it wasn't over because how could they just leave it on "coming soon." They didn't just not say it was over, it was like they were trying to trick people into thinking it wasn't over.

Updates are a bit better now, I'll say that. It doesn't feel as hopeless, but let's be honest. In ten years, the game's balance, the bot problem, it will all be exactly the same as it ever was. And people will still play. Because it's a damn good game. One of the best. Valve won't care. And they'll wait until they truly believe they can't squeeze any more money out of the suckers like me who still believe the game has a chance to finally do us the dignity of announcing it's over.

Can you believe that? Didn't even announce it. No community post, no update post, nothing on the website, they just silently stopped. Pretended like it never happened! I don't believe in forever games, but ♥♥♥♥, you can't just pull the plug at peak player counts and not tell anyone. If it's done it's done don't leave us in limbo like this.

That's why I can't recommend it. I think it's a great game, but it's not worth playing now. You can't play casual for ♥♥♥♥ because of the swarms of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ bots made by no-life wannabe trolls who think they're just so cool for annoying people, so you can't do contracts or level or anything. Community servers are nice but you're at the whims of the creators. There's balance issues out the ass that you can never hope are going to be fixed because they're not going to add new items, they're not going to re-balance the diamondback or make the scorch shot less ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to play against, they're never going to fix anything that isn't game-breaking. And even game-breaking things like the bots get band-aids once a year and never change.

My sympathies go out to those who were there so, so much longer than me. Who had this game become a genuine piece of their lives and had to watch it get left to rot without even so much as a "sorry." If there's any proof that a game can be more than a game, not because it's some moving piece of art, but because of the community it creates, it's TF2. Someday it will die for good. Knowing Valve, when they decide it's time, they'll probably just quietly turn off the servers even if the game still has tens of thousands playing it, just to spite us.

Until then, we're team fortress, and you're dead. 10/10, always.

This game is incredibly good. I've gotten gold on every race, beat the campaign fully once (died on the last few levels like ten times, I'm not very good) and am continuing to play. I am going to buy all the dlc next chance I have. This game has been 30 hours of fun and will likely prove to be double that in the long run. It's addictive, it's simple but tightly designed.
My original review some time ago said that the physics bugs severely detracted from the experience. That isn't true. I was just not very good at it and didn't realize what was my mistake and what was the game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ me over.
The content is expansive, the gimmicks are fun, the game is satisfying.
I don't know if devs read these, or if they can, but if anyone who worked on this game reads this, this is one of my favorite games, and you should be proud.
Anyone should get this. It's hours of fun for a reasonable price. If you even remotely like the idea of beating the ♥♥♥♥ out of people while racing on a motorcycle, buy it.

I've only played the starter pack games and one training game with my custom deck and I'm already hooked. I had frankly assumed I would hate it, because previously with other digital card games (hearthstone and the like) I simply couldn't get into it. Here, the matches are quick enough and the mechanics are simple but fun, and really my only complaint is how easy it is to trick the AI with stuff a player likely wouldn't fall for. Worth playing, especially while the starter pack is free.

2024 Edit: Well wasn't my original review reductive. I was too enraptured with the environment design to actually consider the flaws present. That, and I got quite lucky with the game functioning properly. Now that I've seen the game go through what it went through, let me say my original review should not have been a "recommended." However I will not alter its placement now, as i do recommend it. You'll see it all throughout this review section, after 2.0 and PL it's a brand new game. Still not perfect, but essentially the best it could be after the mistakes made prior to launch. The best recovery it could have had. It's no "No Man's Sky" because that game delivered on its promises, this game still left many unfulfilled. But it's close, enough that I'd give this game a solid 7/10.

Launch Month Review: I honestly love this game. While there are some (admittedly noticeable) bugs, and some features aren't as extensive as expected, it's a really fun game with really cool systems and ideas. It has a cool story and tons more to explore and do than I personally had expected. I'm not even that far into it and I'm already having a blast.
While Reddit and YouTube would want you to believe it was a ruined launch with excessive bugs and underwhelming gameplay, that simply isn't the case. While last-gen console launches may have been a mess, overall on PC the game was exactly what was promised and a little more, with (if slightly clunky) fun combat, a really cool hacking system, graphics good enough to make even my PC regret ever touching it, and a lot of really cool details.
I could go on and on about everything I enjoy, but I won't because I'm rather bad at explaining my thoughts and I don't wish to bore you. All I'm saying is don't let people fool you. Despite the perfect storm of bad signs prior to launch, what we got was an imperfect masterpiece of a game that honors the Cyberpunk universe and all of its aspects, and not the bug-ridden ruined mess that some would like to claim it is.

A great physics game, slightly challenging and a fun speedrun. Haven't fully beat it yet, but play it with the random equipment mod. It's amazing. The spells are really cool, and there's just SO MUCH to do in it.
