I really like tab-target raiding but I don't like aimless grinds or all the other baggage that goes along with the MMO genre. This demo shows that the dev team understands modern tab-target fight design and have solid ideas on how to translate the genre to single-player while still creating engaging fight mechanics. I am an ultimate raider in FFXIV and I am really looking forward to seeing how they adapt the more difficult/aspirational content in the full release. Here's hoping it rips my face off.

Build variety right now seems decent, with players in the discord reporting success with various DOT builds, physical builds, and fire builds. Given that there's only one class and one spec right now, and that class only goes up to level ~8, that's impressive. However these low-level enrages are extremely lenient so don't expect to need to make any changes to make the dps checks. The most difficult enrage is phase 2 of the third boss, if you want to give your build a try.

It's also currently fun to speedrun. The game is not particularly glitchy unless you're really trying for it, but you can make some fun things happen. Everything you skip is exp lost which means the fights after the skip all get harder.

I recommend giving this a try if you like raiding. The current difficulty is a little lower than Extreme and a little higher than Normal, but we only have very low level content in the demo so that makes sense.

The developer clearly LOVES the Half Life series and Portal.

Vertigo is excellently weird, in a lot of novel ways. It acts as a linear corridor shooter in the same way as Alyx, but in a charming low-budget way. It reminded me very strongly of Half Life 1 in a lot of places.

Vertigo's story is its strong suit. Things are strange, but the story stays within its established bounds and lets you learn the space. The story branches in a couple places, and I haven't seen that executed well in VR before.

The game is not perfect, notably in its gun selection. A lot of guns feel a little bit awkward to use, and only a couple of them are truly exciting. Some of them were simply outclassed by later ones. The secret weapons feel like a punishment; when you pick one up, you're locked into a difficult encounter which you can only use the inferior secret weapon in. Unlocking the bow in particular took like half an hour to escape from. The map design is also sometimes a little awkward, especially in dark areas.

Overall, one of the best shooters available on VR as a platform. It doesn't exceed Alyx, but that makes sense because it's a small operation up against Valve. Vertigo is a pretty great second, and far ahead of Boneworks. I'm going to go hit up NG+ and see if I can't find more secrets.

This is an early access game they accidentally took the early access banner off of. Basic stuff like the shield, the assault rifle bolt, the flying mechanics, and the bow are non-functional (Index+Knuckles). The shield takes a long time to react to the gesture and activate, which is poor for a parry. The assault rifle bolt just doesn't work, man. I've thrown the magazine away more than I've successfully reloaded. The flying simply.. doesn't turn? It does make you glide longer when you do the Zenith thing. The bow is just nearly impossible to draw back as the hitbox for grabbing the string appears to be very tiny.

The difficulty scaling appears to be pretty whack, too, as I've still only got access to the basic combat robot but the enemy is advancing rapidly. Every mission is a struggle just to survive, let alone thrive, as the enemy covers the entire map and you spend your entire budget on turrets that just die. Your bases are expensive and defenseless, and the enemy will go around all angles to attack your limited-angle turrets. Their bases are cheap and spawn waves upon waves of enemies to defend themselves. On the fourth mission I died within the first twenty seconds, while I was still looking at the map trying to understand the layout, as enemies had spawned directly adjacent to my base.

I'm not sure why you'd ever use a gun other than the gravity gun. It's hard CC plus a boatload of damage.

I like the concept, a lot, and I'll keep my eye on it. I have very little hope, though, if this is what they're calling 1.0. I just wish I got the chance to use the zealot charge blade, because that looks rad as ♥♥♥♥.

Valve has set the standard by following the OpenXR api for their proprietary SteamVR platform. The cross-compatibility is amazing. Buy your games on Steam, or somewhere else, and they will work with your headset. This is a stark contrast to Facebook's walled garden!

Go play Boneworks, or some other decent-to-good game. This one is decent-to-bad, and it's $40.

It's not built for VR from the ground up, and it's not Half Life Alyx, but retreading this familiar ground will remind you why Half Life 2 was a smash hit in the first place. Simply incredible to re-experience this in a relatively smooth VR format. Wake up Gordon - the Citadel's on full alert, and I've never seen it lit up like that.

Good world design. The progression system is pretty sweet too. Progression gates often only require using the upgrade once, allowing skips to get you through new areas reliably. These combine to make a really replayable randomizer.

Vrkshop is a great concept but this isn't ready for early access. There's not enough tools and what's there doesn't work. The measuring is irritating when the rulers don't allow pencils near them. The nailing is irritating when you have to precariously balance your pieces on top of each other to get started. It's not possible to square anything off. Things lying around the shop will fly into space for no reason, and you'll often have to start levels over because a critical piece of stock wood just yeeted itself away.

I'm looking forward to this when it's playable. Right now it's not.

I don't recommend this currently as a game, but I recommend buying it to support the developer and help it get there.
