Let me start this review by saying something I've seen a lot: People have been comparing this game to Doki Doki Literature Club, dismissing it as "probably just a clone/ripoff/cheap copy" but trust me, this game is only similar to DDLC in its cover. It's a group of four girls, one of them pink haired, in a high school setting. That's where the comparisons mostly end, at least as soon as you get into this game.

This game was an emotional roller coaster, honestly. If I had to describe it in one word, I'd say "motivational". The message of the game really gets you going. It says things everyone needs to hear. It's pretty moving, and I'm definitely taking at least some of the lessons it teaches to heart. It has some pretty interesting ideas.

But I'd also describe it as a "fever dream". It's very confusing at times, and there are a lot of "wtf?" moments (not in the bad "what the ♥♥♥♥ is this crap?" sense). You probably already got that vibe from the trailers, if you've watched them. If you haven't, you'll know what I'm talking about when you do.

I'm being mostly vague, because I don't want to spoil it for you. It's hard to make a spoiler-free review of a story-based game :P

Anyways, don't dismiss this as a DDLC copy, don't judge this book by its cover. If you enjoyed Doki Doki, you will enjoy this game, but don't go in expecting the story to go the same was as DDLC's. It is its own game, and the story it tells is a completely different one.

That isn't to say only DDLC fans will enjoy this Visual Novel, of course. It's a pretty quick journey (it only says 5 hours in my play time because I went for 100% achievements and had to replay it to get the ones I've missed, but normally the true ending route should take you around 3), so even if you're only interested for the visuals (honestly, I was), I'd say give it a go.

Edit: Minor grammar fixes

The game is now available for free on Kongregate (by the own developer, not piracy) with more content than the paid version, so if you buy this, you're paying for a downgraded version of a free game.

This is my favorite Visual Novel ever. Absolutely incredible story, characters, concept, soundtrack and voice acting (especially for the main character). I feel like re-playing it already, even though I've finished reading it less than two months ago.
If you like Visual Novels, you have to play this. Seriously.
Even if you aren't too much into Visual Novels, I have to recommend this to you. This is truly an unforgettable experience.

If you're in doubt between reading this or watching the anime, I definitely recommend the VN over the anime. Even though the journey is longer, it's completely worth it. The anime feels a lot more rushed and some characters are really poorly developed in comparison to the source material, probably a result of stuffing ~45 hours of content into 24 twenty minute episodes.

I don't want to say much more, since, like with most stories, I feel like playing this game blind is the best way to experience it.

El Psy Kongroo.

Great mod, really challenging at times. Some puzzles can be harder than the original game's puzzles.
Definitely worth your time if you liked Portal.

I absolutely love this game. It's my second favorite of the Re;Birth trilogy. I had some crash issues in the beginning, but I fixed it easily with the help of some community guides. It didn't take any of the fun for me.
For some confused people, this game doesn't happen in the same dimension as Re;Birth 1, the SuperDimension. This timeline passes in the HyperDimension.
Pros:
  • Great story!
  • LOTS of endings (9, if I remember correctly).
  • New characters!
  • Fun dialogues.
  • More story and personality given to the CPU Candidates. In the first game it was just "oh here take those lolis, they came from the shares you got", in this one they are the focus of the plot.
  • Stella's Dungeon. It's like a sidequest where you send Stella (Felistella's maker character) to the dungeons you visited to collect cool items in a certain period of real world time. You can send her to do a cool mission while you sleep! I recommend buying the DLC that includes Felix Insurance for this, though. It's a plan that lets Stella keep her items even if she dies in the dungeon.
  • NEP!
  • Good replay value (New Game Plus adds new colosseum bosses, more dungeons and plans, etc).
Cons:
  • Some dungeons and enemies have reused sprites from the first game (but that doesn't get in the way of having fun).
  • Repetitive boss fights.
  • Some crash issues in the beginning (they are easily fixed, though).

    Do I recommend this? Obviously!

Não compre esse jogo por seu preço inteiro (22 reais), não vale a pena. Comprei na promoção de primavera, quando estava a 1,09. Daí sim vale a pena. Mas por 22 reais? Não.

Pros:

One of the best puzzle games I've already played. I have 17 hours of gameplay and I am still stuck in the Least Time Challenges (call me a noob xP). Some people say that it is bad because the story have 2 hours and it's not worth the full price. But there is much more in Portal than the Story mode. To beat 100% of the game, you need to put all of the radios in a certain place, disconect lots of cameras from the wall and, after that, beat the advanced test chambers and the challenges. And let's not forget the game's secret lore. You can find 5 Rattman Dens in this game, with lots of strange drawings that reveal secret parts of the game.
I'll say it again, it's one of the best puzzle games I've already played. Also, the credits music is so great <3
