Initially I bemoned the requirement that you have a PSN account to play. Whatever. Not a good enough reason for a review.

The biggest issue I have right now is that the game doesn't fully shut down, the anti-cheat won't let me load the game half the time because my network connection can be slightly spotty, and so if I try to launch the game again after ending, I have to fully restart my computer. These are not issues unique to me, as I have found several posts on Reddit about this issue. The reason I have as much time in the game as I do is because it isn't fully shutting down. I think I actually played 4-5 hours in the last 2 weeks, not 48 hours. So because of that I can't even get a refund for this title. So yeah, the game itself is fun, when I can get it to launch. If it fails to launch, I usually end up needing to re-start my computer to try again. And the anti-cheat functions more like spyware that you can't stop once it's started.

Great game to play with friends. If you enjoy tower defense and first person shooters, then this is the game for you.

Two big things. This game can be called "Drill Fixing Simulator 201X" adn "Bag Moving Simulator 201X" and both discriptions are right. In spite of that, the game is immensely fun.

Fun with friends. Fun with strangers. Not really "Pay-to-Win" as smoe claimed, as it's a PVE Co-Op style game, not a PVP style game. There is no PVP element to the game, but with Dozers (Tanky, Bomb Difusal Suit Armor Wearing Enemies), Cloakers (Stealthy, melee, 1 hit kill enemies), Tasers (Exactly what they sound like), Shields, (Again, cops with riot shields) and the variety of difficulty levels, it will remain challenging for even the best players for a long time.

CONS: Disconnections are somewhat frequent if your internet connection isn't the greatest, or if it gets busy. You are better off trying offline for a while at that point. DLC - There's quite literally $100+ of DLC if you pay full price. For a $20 game. Upside is that there are plenty of sales where the price drops fairly dramatically. You can ususally get the majority of the DLC for +/- 75% off.

DLC Notes: If you feel that you must buy DLC, I would highly suggest the Gage Mod Courier Pack, it gives you free mods for in game pick-ups, and the Sokol Character Pack, solely for the Grinder Perk Deck, which allows you to regenerate Health, something that can ususally only be done through using a medical kit, just by doing damage to enemies. The Butchers BBQ pack is also helpful for the molotove cocktail grenades.

The Community: I have very rarely run into the typical "COD F*g" style gamer, even if they happen to be a little kid. The majority of the community is very helpful and welcoming, although I would contest that someone who is a higher level than you doesn't necessarily know what they are doing, depending on the heist.

I strongly reccommend joining the Payday 2 Communtiy Group on Steam, if only for the free weapons that they have made available, some of which are very powerful/useful, at least in the earliest stages of the game. Some of them are still useful in the later stages as well. This game is not story driven, rather it has a story that unfolds around you as you play. If that doesn't make sense to you, don't worry. The story of the game is very loose. If you want a game that lets you jump in for a quick bank robbery, this will accommodate. If you want something that will hold you for hours at a time, until you hit the max level, this will also do that. This game will let you sink as many hours into it as you want, let you buy as many or as few DLC as you want, as the only person that needs to have them to play them is the Host, and in general let you play how you want, be it Loud, Stealth, or a mix of the two, Stealth before going Loud and wrecking face with your .50 cal silenced sniper rifle.

Have Fun.
