With the upcoming changes, I can't support playing this anymore. The game already has enough issues in higher tiers with loot boxes and most premium tier 10s being better than tech tree tanks. I started playing this because they had retained some of the older tanks removed from the PC version tech trees. I ended up sticking with it because arty doesn't exist to make the game a slog and battles are shorter and faster.

However, with the upcoming update to Unreal 5, Wargaming has decided to remove the tech trees in favor of some battle group mechanic. I've played games with similar systems and didn't enjoy it. It makes progression more of a grind and less clear how to reach certain tanks.

The commander system will start out free to play, and then the newer, better commanders will end up gated off behind loot boxes. I'll pass and wait and see what the state of the game is like in half a year.

It's 2025 - and the game is still as unbalanced as ever. Killer is still effortless to play unless you run into a 4-man SWF group. Playing as a survivor just isn't fun. Too many killer perks suck the life out of the game. Gen blocking perks in the first 90 seconds of the match are toxic, aura reading abilities give the killer way too much information, and pallets/windows are pretty much worthless because you are guaranteed to take a hit using them. Too many killers have abilities that are utterly broken, and survivor abilities largely feel pointless when playing solo. Most items and add-ons are worthless. Wiggling is pointless because killers can just casually take their time finding one of the far too abundant hooks laying around the map.

The game just feels like a disjointed, poorly paced mess. None of the mechanics allow the game to be fun for either side. Chases aren't fun, trying to do gens aren't fun, and the killers barely have to use their unique powers. Losing sight of a survivor is very difficult when playing the killer.

Unless you have a dedicated group of friends, or you enjoy matches lasting about 5 minutes as the killer, then I'd recommend playing a different game.

Just a quick review based off of the 15 or so hours I have into it.

Pros:

+ Atmosphere and setting are well done and immersive; enviroments are gorgeous. Weather effects are pretty cool.

+ Combat is much more fluid and less clunky than FO3+NV. As a result, combat is more challening and enemies are tougher to kill.

+ Crafting is pretty well done; it is similar (but improved) to Skyrim's crafting. Essentially they took Skyrim's crafting system concept and expanded the crafting system from New Vegas (cooking, making explosives/chems) and made weapons much have much more variety to what you can mod on them (single shot to automatic, short barrel rifle to sniper with a scope, change out the stock/receiver).

+ Story so far is more engaging than Fallout 3; the voice acting in conversations makes a big difference in conversations as they feel like an actual conversation vs. someone talking at me. (although at the same time this is a con that I'll expand upon below)

+ You can build multiple settlements over the course of the game. Fairly confusing, but pretty fun once you get the hang of it; you take junk that you find to build stuff. Fallout 3 left me wanting more options in building up factions. New Vegas kind of let you choose which factions to strengthen/weaken, but ultimately you don't get to truly rebuild the wasteland. FO4 lets you take a much more active hand in rebuilding the Commonwealth into an actual empire of sorts.

+ Power armor actually feels like powered armor now. Essentially it is like a "vehicle" powered by fusion cores where you
climb into it. You find your first suit early on, and it is balanced out by the armor pieces having to be repaired after taking so much damage. Like your weapons, these are fully customizable.

+ Enemies scale to match your level like Skyrim, but if you pick non-combat skills I think it balances out - so far I've picked a fair number of non-combat perks and I'm not facing the fallout version of Draugr Murderlords 20 levels into the game.

Neutral (I honestly kinda like some of these changes, but others might not):

*Depending on whether you liked it or not, weapon/player armor no longer has durability (with the exception of pieces of power armor). Instead you have multiple options for armor, either a one piece item, or a slimmer armor like the vault suit with multiple pieces of other armor over the top for your arms/legs/head/eyes. I don't miss having to pay out rediculous amounts of caps to repair my armor or having to scrounge for armor using jury rig to fix my rare armor after short periods of play.

*The karma system didn't return from FO3/NV. Not a big deal for me, I always thought it was a bit silly at times; I didn't even notice it wasn't in the game until I pickpocketted a few people.

*The skill points system is also missing from FO4. This is because they expanded the perk system to replace it. Now when you level up you get a single point to add to either your Special points or you pick a perk (which all have multiple ranks). Perks now require a minimum level + special for most of the higher ranks in a perk. If I had to make a comparison, it is similar to dumping all of your skill points into a single skill instead of spreading them out over multiple skills. It initially feels like you have less options if you are trying to play more generalist; but you can level indefinitely and leveling up doesn't take forever because enemies mostly scale to your level. Initially I thought I was going to hate not having skill points, but they did a good job integrating special and perks that I don't feel like this was a bad change. At the very least it is easier to plan out which perks you want to grab vs. Fallout 3/NV perk list.

*Trading is much, much more expensive early on in the game than FO3/NV or even the turn based Fallouts. The cost of ammo is much higher - if you aren't using pipe weapons and .38 ammo, expect to be scrounging for a while early on to trade for shotgun shells/energy weapons/other caliber ammo.

Cons:

-The trade off for all of the conversations in the game being voiced are there are a lot less dialogue options with NPCs. There are only 4 options most of the time, and conversations are very linear. I think it does hurt FO4, but I'm hoping that Bethesda builds upon this by keeping the voice acting and expanding conversation depth for their next major game release. It honestly feels like they took a step sideways in this regard from FO4 - the conversations are about as in depth as a lot of the NPCs from FO3. At least the voice acting is more varied than the other Fallouts.

-The building system is very confusing for the more complex systems and the tutorial for this is barebones at best. Figuring out how to power some of the more advanced systems is a confusing affair of trial and error.

-Followers eat through ammo that you give them like they are candy. While the AI is better than prior games, they still will still be trying to snipe from across the map with a combat shotgun or that SMG if you give them close range guns.

-So while enemies fighting up close are more challenging because they have better attack animations, ranged enemies are beyond cheap at times. Fighting at range gets tough if it is sunny or foggy because you will have a hard time spotting enemies outside of VATs while they have no problem 420 no scoping you from across the map. Also, they will spam perfectly thrown grenades and molotovs at you behind layers of cover. This messes you up pretty quick on harder difficulties; it also ensures that you stay practically permablind.

Summary:

So essentially if you enjoyed Fallout 3/NV and Skyrim, you will probably enjoy this game. If you are more tied to the turn based Fallouts, you probably won't like this. I think this is a big step in the right direction for this type of game, and I'm looking forward to playing more the next few weeks.

Honestly, started out as a fun game where you play as the Robbers in a modern version of cops vs. robbers. As time went on, powercreep happened in regards to new DLC granting better weapons. The game has since been DLC'd into oblivion, churning out 5.00 packs of DLC constantly. The final straw in the hat for this game was the introduction of a weapon nerf for older weapons, while introducing "optional" safe drops requiring money to open. Why is this bad? Because you have to pay more money to buy drills to open these safes. In return, you are granted vastly superior versions of old weapons only available by paid safe drops.

Take a lot of broken promises to the community, and it is clear this game has turned into a way for Overkill to maximize profits while offering less in return to the customer.

Possibly worth a look on sale, otherwise avoid like the plague.

Much better than the game reviews are giving this. The storyline is fairly bad, but the game is fun as hell; especially the multiplayer. If your looking for an action shooter, this game is for you. If your expecting a game along the lines of the earlier resident evil games or even a game comparable to 4 or 5 then you'll probably be disappointed. The game could use a little polish, but what few gripes I have with the game are minor. The DLC campaign is 19.99 (two separate packs worth 9.99, with 6 new scenarios and 4 new maps) but is about 20x the campaign that the USS campaign is. I recommend waiting for it to go on sale and then pick up the DLC after for a much better experience.
