This, fellow gamers, is a fantastic game to play after a long, stressful day. Although you will most likely finish the game within an hour, I (almost) guarantee that doing so will prove to be relaxing. The visuals are pleasing to the eye, as are the sounds to the ear. If you consider yourself to be a fan of both indie and casual games, then you (most likely) can't go wrong with this title. Due to the game's short length, however, you might want to consider waiting for a sale. However, don't let what I've said keep you from purchasing and playing this masterpiece. Some of you--undoubtedly--have a lot more money to spend on games than I do.

If you enjoy playing action role-playing games (particularly those from Japan), Ys Origin is a solid investment. At first, the level designs and monsters were fairly basic, but this is not so much of an issue as you progress higher up the tower. The amount of variety in the demon designs and floor designs later on isn't spectacular, but keep in mind this is all going on inside of a tower. The bosses--I would say--are the only exception. The level and skill system revolve around finding new equipment and gems. Although simple in design, there is just enough variety to keep you interested. The story itself is alright (at least to the point where I am at...), and the characters aren't too bad. You won't be interacting with them too much anyway. In order to improve your character's own abilities and the abilities of some of your weapons and other equipment, the game allows players to cash in the SP dropped by defeated demons. This SP is cashed in at the game's Goddess statues, which also serve as save points. Generally, the distance between these save points is just the "right" distance. If you don't know what difficulty to play at, I would recommend the "normal" difficulty setting. Normal might seem too easy at first, but the game becomes significantly harder later on. However, action RPG veterans will likely want to bump up the difficulty a notch or two. If not at the normal price, then consider adding Ys Origin to your Steam library the next time the game is on sale.
