e: this review is kinda snarky, but it's totally true. I want this game to be good, but even as the game has improved, my experiences with it have only worsened. I'm sorry.

Dota 2 has made great strides in the past few years to be more friendly to new players (guides, tutorial systems, game modes that reduce hero choices, etc) but it is still monumentally new-player unfriendly.
Dota 2 has made a large number of intertesting and positive changes to the flow of a match since starting out (bounty runes, flexibility in starting items, quality of life improvements to side shop, etc) it still has a frighteningly high rate of "dud" games.
Dota 2 has an aesthetic that takes notes from TF2, while trying to be unique. It's unfortunately a muddy mess that lacks visual clarity, though this opinion is hotly contested by some of my friends.

Dota 2 might be worth checking out in a few years.

This game is ♥♥♥♥. It is awful in every way I can imagine. Now I will click on the "Recommend" button, knowing it is all a lie, Everything I have ever stood for is sullied by this reprehensible action, yet I feel compelled to do so. This is the awesome and terrible power of 'Bad Rads: the Rats' Revenge'.
