Returnal is the most 6/10 game I've ever played, it is a solid good game. You don't need the story to enjoy the game. You'll mainly be playing it for the shooting and movement. It's not that hard of a game, at most, you'll learn the bosses attack patterns within 1-2 fights.

Pros
The shooting aspect was great.
The movement feels really good.
I never felt like I got wronged when getting hit.
Figuring out the new aspects of the game as I'm progressing was good.


Cons
The bosses are pretty bland when it comes to fighting them.
There is not any meaningful combo potential when it comes to upgrades. While playing the game I've never felt like "Oh this would go great with XYZ. It really boils down grab every trait and avoid guns you're not comfortable with.
There is not much variety when it comes to the rougelite aspect of the game. After 2-3 runs on each biome you'll seen 80% of the terrain.
100% this game is an actual pain, there are rare sections you need to roll to complete a biome. It took me 4-5 hours to roll the rare section.

I suggest getting the game on sale.

Don't based the game with the screenshots, best look at the videos.
This is the most interesting game I've played. It has the best corny, cringe, self aware story. While having a fantastic, unique, never going to be replicated gameplay. It is honestly best you have no prior knowledge when buying the game. If the short videos interest you then you should grab it at any price.

I easily put 300 hours on the mobile version and will spend more time on steam. Easy recommendation.
