Emperor Hirohito (1901–1989) was the 124th Emperor of Japan, ruling from 1926 until his death. His reign, known as the Shōwa era, spanned significant historical events, including Japan’s militarization, World War II, and its postwar recovery.

Hirohito was the symbolic leader of Japan during its expansionist period, though the extent of his involvement in military decisions remains debated. After Japan's surrender in 1945, he was allowed to remain on the throne but renounced his divine status under U.S. occupation reforms. His later years were marked by Japan’s economic resurgence and modernization. Today, he is viewed as a complex figure—both a wartime leader and a symbol of peace in Japan’s reconstruction.
