I didn't play more than a few minutes before the progression was rebalanced, so i can't speak on how bad it was before. However, the progression feels perfectly fine and well tuned now. Any negative review due to the game being grindy from before July 21st can be disregarded in my opinion.

Overall It's a solid addition to the growing list of short and sweet incremental games and one of nicest to look at in recent memory. 7/10

It strikes the same chord as Digseum for sure and was inspired by it without question.
That said, it does enough different to be an easy recommend.

Games like this aren't so much of a "why play X when you can play Y" like a $60 FPS or subscription MMO, both this and Digseum can been experienced fully as you have a snack or watch a video essay. I'd love to see this game bundled with Digseum to help with its arguably inflated price.

Overall i think its a competent addition to the 2-Hour-Dopamine-Factory genre and floats around a 7/10
I hope this developer will explore incremental games more in the future, as they clearly can see what makes these games tick.

I really like the aesthetic and concept of this game. However, i have had technical issues with the game in almost every possible way. The game doesn't scale to my screen properly, is forced into full screen and has no options to affect this, even worse, the games menus and interactions are individually bugging out while in this unstable state. I was able to stabilize it long enough to complete by using -windowed in launch options, however every time i reboot my pc i would have to remove this setting, launch the game, close the game and re input the launch option to avoid a crash. A few other bugs i encountered:

- Fighting any of the boss cubes always displayed a "boss defeated" message even when failing.
- Fully Upgrading the snake caused it to be only 1 segment long and die instantly.
- Block breaker achievements not tracking for my entire first play through.
- XP achievement not progressing at all.
- Presumably a side effect of my screen issue mentioned before, right clicking would sometimes tab me out and back into the game multiple times in a row, and then not at all for minutes.

This would be a competent and charming incremental game right up there with the likes of Nodebuster and Max Manos, but it is severely held back by its technical issues and poor achievement balancing. If the developer(s) address these issues the game will be a solid 8/10 and i would certainly recommend it, however in its current state it is impossible to recommend with a lot of potential. Looking forward to where these devs go in the future, they have talent, this project just needs a lot of work.

I played a grand total of 3 matches as a duo so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Played the Battle Royale as it was the largest button in the match selection, both our teammates and all the enemies were silently inserted bots. Next we queued for the casual playlist and got placed in a search and destroy game mode, while all 8 players seemed to be human, the entire enemy team was playing the same build and spamming scans through walls, so we didn't stand much chance. Lastly we tried the only other gamemode that was available, 24 player domination. I'm almost certain every other player was a bot once again.

Idk man, the gunplay feels alright but all the gamemodes and class equipment requiring 10-15 games to even unlock is a real wall when im already not having a great time.

Overall serviceable incremental game but i feel like it misses the mark in a few places.

First, the core "dopamine hit" of the game ceases to be the point midway through. To keep it brief, by moving around the play area you grow grass, the more grass you can grow, the more resources you gain per run. However after a dozen or so prestige levels, just running back and forth in the same patch of grown grass becomes the safest, and most efficient way to progress, and in the late game, the entire field is grown near instantly, then the only goal is to exist in the game space while resources are produced, and to expand on that point....

Second, the upgrades that come towards the end of the game take far, far too long to accumulate resources for. This is exacerbated by the fact that said resources are grown from flowers at a fixed rate, meaning that both the slowest and fastest way to accumulate them, is just to exist in the levels with no thought or strategy. It seriously feels like 80% of the upgrades i had left to buy required yellow resource, which i hadn't been able to improve the collection of since the first 20 minutes of the game, and to my knowledge never receives any boost. Spending 10 minutes in a run would afford me maybe 1 level of an upgrade while at prestige level 25 or endless mode, which is waaaaay overturned.

Lastly, and the most personal gripe, having buttons that say "coming soon" in what is marketed as a finished game rubs me the wrong way. I get that this is a solo dev, single idea exploration type of game, but you step into some murky water when you have a menu where 8/10 options are grayed out and say coming soon. To be clear to anyone who hasn't played, I'm referring to the skin menu, fully cosmetic as far as i know, so this is much more of a psychological and intent issue rather than game continuity/content. That said, the dev has done an OUTSTANDING job pushing out patches and addressing issues with their game, the game's performance went from <30 FPS on my 4060 to a steady 144 after the patch. With that in mind, I'm convinced the the dev will deliver more patches, add the aforementioned skins, and maybe even more free content. I just want to bring it to the developers attention that the existence of steam early access inherently casts a reverse shadow of expectation on "finished" games to not have construction zones packed in at launch.

5/10, would recommend to people looking for bite sized incremental games, but certainly not as an intro to the genre

Far too short and too few ideas for the asking price in my opinion.

That said, separating the game from its price tag allows it to breath as a novel and fun hour long experience. The additional mechanics that the game did introduce felt like natural expansions on the core of the game and made each area feel denser. The core mechanic of moving the slow boat around cramped environments seemed like it was going to be frustrating but actually turned out to be enjoyable, never truly feeling ponderous or clunky, which is an impressive feat of development in its own right. I'd definitely like to have a reason to replay the game, an alternate game mode, challenge run or some sort of expansion, even if it's paid DLC, because more than anything i am just left wanting to play more of this game.

All in all, weighing the fact that this is the developers first marketed game, that they effectively jumped feet first into game dev (read their blog posts it's wild) and that i deeply enjoyed what little time i did get to play of this game, it's a solid 7/10

Hazelight can only make 10/10 games i swear. I could play a dozen more games of this formula and still have a great time.

Also my god that ending sequence was a cut above even for these developers.

10/10 and my GOTY
