There's definitely an audience for this type of narrative; it's brutally nihilistic and dismal. How would I summarise it best - oppressive hyper-realism? It reads like a drama novel, with appropriately long-winded scenes and fitting twists. It seemed a little "miserable for misery's sake" to me, but I'm sure that's exactly what fans of this genre are looking for.

However, I would not recommend this to the majority of people looking for a narrative experience. Unless you're a part of the aforementioned audience, I can see this being a slog. Every new turn of the story brought more excruciating hopelessness. Seriously, the game's bursting at the seams with it! I appreciate what was trying to be done but was unable to really enjoy it and found a few scenes difficult to get through, unfortunately.

That being said, I did enjoy the way the characters were written. They felt natural and right at home in their, well, depressing world.

Super stylish and polished, with varied and difficult gameplay. It feels really good to play, with satisfying visual and audio feedback, not to mention the absolutely bumping soundtrack.

This is also one of the few full VR experiences that I would say is accessible for introductory VR, assuming no preexisting issues with motion sickness.

Great, polished mini-documentary style book that delves deep into the inner workings of Valve. The interactivity is a fun bonus, too.

(Don't buy this if you don't like wordiness, though, it's about 90% reading!)

It's the Room... in VR. It has all the detail, charm, and accessibility of the originals wrapped up in a nice VR package.

Interaction doesn't feel as good and physical as it could, but that is a side product of facilitating the escape room type gameplay - extraneous detailed interactions detract from the actual objective.

It makes up for this with the rest of "The Room" package, with impressive environments, good audio design, and most importantly, engaging puzzles. The story is interesting enough as well, and each area feels unique with a variety of mechanics.

I recommend picking this game up on sale, as the playtime is rather short for its full price tag.

Fantastic addition to the main game!

Nyakua Metro itself is a fun, colourful chapter, though by no means difficult. The visuals and soundtrack are top notch, making for a great atmosphere that feels distinct from the rest of the game. If one takes the time to smell the flowers, it is a very pleasant chapter, but the more discerning player may find the challenge and engagement to be lacking. The other additions are nice, with cool new cosmetics and some cheeky little references and easter eggs. Unfortunately, the finale is a little disappointing and leaves the chapter feeling unfinished, but overall, I found the chapter to be much more enjoyable than the Arctic Cruise from Seal the Deal.

Online Party is an interesting interpretation of online co-operative play. In its current state, it is more of a mode to mess around in than anything else. Most things are client sided, which means proper co-op is not really possible, as objectives and the such must be completed by every player separately. However, make no mistake, the mode is still a ton of fun. Having 10+ Hat Kids just zooming around, spamming emotes, and beating each other up is priceless. There is no text or voice chat, which does make it difficult to communicate, but it also makes every interaction feel wholesome and pure, since every encounter is basically comprised of children making noises, crawling around one another, and dancing together. It is true that other than messing around, there is not much depth to the game mode, but it is still a very welcome addition to the base game.

To conclude, Nyakuza Metro is definitely a worthy addition to a Hat in Time. Go get it and become a cat in crime!
