Truly a phenomenal game in my eyes and the best of the 3 current spelunky games (expectedly as it is the latest instalment).

The greatest aspect of the spelunky experience is the quality replay-ability the game has to offer with its randomly generated rooms throughout different world types, the complex game mechanics that are simple to learn but take extensive time and dedication to master.

Spelunky 2 is a rogue-like game, (this works well with the randomised rooms), therefore as you play you cant rely on any form of power ups for the player character across games, but you need to learn how the world around you works and how to thrive within it, this would lead the skill ceiling to be even higher.

The game has well rounded graphics and a colour pallet that is not too vibrant or abstract. Each world also has a unique theme that really makes each new location feel different, this consists of the music that seamlessly transitions through levels (10/10 but can be disabled), the huge variety of enemies that all have their own attack patterns and the style of the terrain surrounding you. These aspects lead each level to feel alive and not just a chore to get through.

This game is packed full of npcs to interact with, quest lines to do and secrets waiting to be found. And all of this is documented in a well thought out journal that can provide insight into how far you have progressed through the many hours of content waiting to be explored.

There is also a co-op mode for up to four people and this can be accessed locally or through an online feature, with this you can access the standard adventure game mode and the arena mode to battle your friends to become the ultimate spelunker.
