Truth is... the game was rigged from the start. RIP Matthew Perry.

Early Access Review
7 Days to Die advertises: Survival, Horror and Crafting. It delivers on its promise. It can be jank at times, but the jank is more often amusing than anything else. One thing remains true: It is always getting better.

I've been playing this game as a free-to-play for so long. It's about time I put in a review.

Is the scope of the game impressive? Maybe. Are the battles massive and beautiful? Sure. Is there chaos beyond compare? Absolutely. Is there a little gameplay for everyone? Yep. FPS, that's the default. Tanks and other vehicles, too. Air combat too, for the ones dedicated to learning. Even base building and small scale squad-tactics or large scale territorial warfare and resource acquisition.

But that's not what this game is about. This game is about pushing around a wall of rocks through a storm of bullets, zig-zagging past tank shells and hoping the armor column didn't see you, finding yourself caught up in an orbital strike, rushing to some overhang to pray you survive, watching a small army get sent into the sky, and then wondering to yourself, "How the heck am I still alive?"

Yes, when you're surrounded by chaos and death and laughing your head off asking "How am I still alive?" you've come to understand what this game is all about. And then you laugh about the fleet of airplanes crashing into your tank column because the purple guys are all jerks. You insult the red guys for doing nothing but over-popping fights, or you watch the blue guys get drunk and laugh at each other as they teamkill one another because half their weapons are shotguns and they lost their guilt over friendly-fire years ago.

This is what this game is about. Flying trucks, turbo-charged buggies with big guns, walls of bullets, grenades and rockets in narrow hallways, madmen on comms and even madder men driving and piloting. This is what it's about, this beautiful, preposterous, absurd, unpredictably chaotic fun game. Sometimes you play to win. Sometimes you play to get good, sometimes to grind. But most of the time, you play to witness and be a part of the awesomeness.
