Compare and contrast 1984 to our world’s recent history. Describe and analyze the concepts of Newspeak, Thought Police, and Information Control and provide similar concepts you recognize in America, North Korea, Venezuela, China, or Russia. How does Orwell show that totalitarianism is able to take a person’s individualism and identity? Do members of the Oceania society have individual civil liberties like freedom of speech; if not, how did they lose them?
