So, to sum it up — the expansion itself is actually pretty great. A lot of features were long overdue and definitely deserved to be added to the game, which is why I’m giving it a thumbs up.
However, it’s dragged down by the patch and the global overhaul of the economy and population systems, which — aside from introducing tons of bugs — fails to do what it was supposed to: improve optimization.
(To be fair to the developers, I have to admit that not a single global overhaul in the past 9 years has gone smoothly — and that’s not really surprising.)

As for me, I’ll probably return to the game in a month or two once things settle down, or maybe after the next expansion drops.

An excellent game with a great story (reading events is a pleasure). Despite some bugs, occasionally quite annoying, the game is worth every cent.
I highly recommend it to all who like city-builders and Tetris.

Just good RPG, no more no less. I definitely enjoyed the playthrough, especially the combat and the writing.

Pros: Stellaris has always captivated many with its "exploration phase," and the new expansion hits right in this spot. More lore, more digging into artifacts, remnants, stories etc. Highly recommended.

Cons: This doesn’t relate to the expansion itself but rather to the design of new mechanics/content. Two big elephants in the room still need some love and attention: internal politics and espionage. Additionally, after the Machine Age, similar improvements are expected for the other ascension paths.

Overall, I liked the idea of the expansion. A bit of randomness adds to replayability, plus some lore elements always welcome. The downside, formally, is that the rework of certain core gameplay systems is still being delayed – internal politics and factions, like espionage, have been largely insignificant for too long.
If you're unsure, get it at a discount or as part of a season pass.
