I've seen a lot of reviews about this game saying it's really only for hardcore fans of the fighting genre. As someone who enjoys fighters quite a bit but only plays casually, I have a lot of fun with this game. The art is beautiful, the characters are likeable, the gameplay is smooth and gratifying, and the music is catchy. The game is community-driven and looks to grow as long as fans support it. There are loads of references to fighting game, cartoon, and anime culture through attacks, phrases, and character palettes.

The single player modes are that of your typical fighting game, and there really isn't much to say about them. The AI may destroy a new player, but it can be adjusted to a laughably easy level, and you'll steadily get better at the game until the AI is only a real challenge at the highest difficulty setting. The final boss is frustratingly hard, however, and you may resort to spamming a cheap move to beat it. Like any fighting game, though, the real fun is playing with friends and/or online.

The controls in this game are responsive, moreso than many fighting games I've tried. It plays very much like Marvel vs. Capcom. You have your usual quarter-circles, dragon punches, and a few charge commands. There are no half-circles or other, more complicated commands. There is one 360 input, but it can be fudged; you don't have to be too precise for most attacks to work.

The roster is small, but the game is constantly growing. It comes with free access to the Endless Beta version, which lets players try new characters or new balancing tweaks as they're being developed. At the time of writing, the game has 11 characters, with at least 3 more scheduled for development, and many more that could be coming.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this for fans of the fighting genre, but I also think it's worth a look for a more casual gamer interested in the art.
