For new fans getting into the series, this is probably the most "casual" addition to the Dragon Age Series which means it'll be the easiest one to play and finish. Now, as a long time Dragon Age fan, this game is a severe let down.
Overall opinion of the game is that it feels like they tried to turn DATV into a movie, but had to keep reminding themselves it was a game so they sprinkled a little extra ♥♥♥♥ here and there trying to make it seem like its still a Dragon Age game. Also, for a Dragon Age game, the dragons are pretty much all just one dragon reskinned multiple times, just each one uses different afflictions. All have the same moves. One fight felt unique and it was the highest lvl dragon in the game.
Combat is flashy and colorful, but lacking and quickly repetitive. Most skill point nodes are just passives that increase a type of damage, while some are just minor buff or tweaks to a TYPE of ability, with only a handful of actually abilities on your skill tree. All afflictions, except Cold, pretty much operate the same. They all do a DoT with different passive affects and when you max your stacks on an enemy, they don't stay unless you have an item or skill that allows it, but they do get some extra effect in return for making you have to reapply your afflictions.
Maps are vibrant and wide, but fairly empty. I think that is solely because the collectible aspect of the game has been reduced to only needing to collect gear and codex's. Codex's don't have any map indications so you just have to find them while chest do have map icons. Oh, let me not forget the shrines you can find in the game, but that's pretty much it for things to look for. Also, for some odd reason, instead of just adding doors or other structures to block path to areas you shouldn't have access, they decided to just throw up white barriers that straight up just say "area currently inaccessible".
The companions and relationship system in this game is feels lazy, but I can't really hate it because I did save "everyone" and shed a tear a couple of times during some scenes.
