Early Access Review
And the devs delivered!

Build 0278 - 13th Dec
- Fixed the problem with multiplayer saves not loading correctly (ie. players being positioned on water)
- Fixed buttons for version difference in multiplayer lobby crashing game

I specifcally bought this game to play multiplayer with my girlfriend. We enjoyed the original Thea and this looks like a polished & updated sequel with new events and features. I wasn't expecting nor did I want an entirely new gameplay experience (like some of the review I've seen). It mostly delivers.

What I expect from an early access title are barebones features and bugs scattered around that necessitate a reload from time to time. I also am fully expecting that my saves will be wiped whenever there is an update. The features are mostly fleshed out and far beyond what most early access titles offer. The bugs are there and plenty from graphical errors to failing to load into combat. All this needing a save and restart maybe every 20-30 turns so far. This is all fine to me as I signed up to an early access.

The main weakness in the current game is the lack of advancement points (science points as everyone knows them). Now the devs have said that they are going to add an advancement system in later. But currently the only ways to advance are at a snails pace with a building that takes a while to get to or by completing quests. Not combat encounters but only quests of which you have no quest tracker and don't know the difficulty going in. What this can mean is that the lesss min/max player can choose 'incorrect' unlock path and not have the necessary equipment or resources in order to beat these encounters.

With all this said I'm going to give this a tentative recommendation. The devs are firing out more updates than Windows 10 when you're in the middle of something and the game is fairly polished for an early access.

PREVIOUS PARAGRAPH FOR CONTEXT: THIS IS NO LONGER TRUE

"Where the game gets its 'not recommended' from me is that I am unable to load a multiplayer save. Every single multiplayer save, be it autosave or manual, is corrupted and gives a wall of red text and errors on load. Obviously this makes the simple reload bugs gamebreaking. I've only manged 20-30 mintues at a time in any multiplayer game before I have to save/reload which means that that playthrough is over."
