It's genuinely really well-made, even possibly From's best.

Anyone that leaves a negative comment about the content itself got filtered early on, anyone who leaves a comment about the performance is likely being CPU bottlenecked due to EAC, or has outdated video drivers.
Otherwise, the framerate is capped to 60, unfortunately.

Disgusting, but it's practically all there is on Steam for halfway-decent cowboy action with friends on Steam aside from Hunt Showdown, which is a far better play for less.
Story is utter garbage, and Arthur Morgan at his best isn't even half the character John Marston was at his worst.

Multiplayer is somehow even more money-grubbing than GTAV- at least GTAV doesn't lock basic missions/activities behind premium currency paywalls- nor make those same paywalled activities the only real way of making decent cash in the online portion.
Feels grindier than Warframe with the previous fact in mind.

Speaking of the Online, the game's buggy as all hell. Missions break progress near the end, NPCs will repeat dialogue, objectives will disappear, bounties will kill themselves for no reason; horses constantly take control away from you and require meter-tending WHILE you're in the middle of gunfights, bounties, or other missions. Trading companies (big way to make money with friends) require you to ACTIVELY STAY in the same posse for their meters to fill in order for you to get your payoff- you can't make any production progress without being in the posse that started it, unlike GTAV 6 years before.
All this petty ♥♥♥♥ and far, far more add up to frustration after frustration with this sorry excuse for a multiplayer component.

To make matters worse, Rockstar has basically just announced the sunsetting of the game not long before this review- stating that no further events, updates, or bug fixes are planned for the foreseeable future as they work on making sure their latest Shark Card incentives and monotonous content in GTA Online continue to be implemented instead.

Sequels probably shouldn't bank off being prequels if you wrote yourself into a corner at the conclusion of the previous game- question why there needs to be a sequel made in the first place before you go and do it.
Also, can we stop the trend of making sequels readily available on modern platforms without getting a modern version of the original onto the same platform first?

This has got to be one of the most pretentious works of media I've ever experienced.

Subjective opinions be damned here- I would fight any opposing viewpoint on this when the developer is insistent on b***hing and moaning that a game like Cruelty Squad beat G-String in sales, and her game deserves more attention. (original tweet deleted, here's a damage-control tweet.)

Immediate vitriol aside,

So much of my thoughts during the game could be summed up into one word:

Why?

I'll add more here later when I've cooled off, but the finale to the game only left me fuming at why I bothered to waste my time prevailing through the parade of sewer levels.

Imma be real, I'm just simping this game for the sick-ass, great-sounding future-twists on both modern and old-school guns.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To summarize my Reddit:tm: Review, try the game if the following applies to you:

•You've never played Synthetik
•You didn't like the first Synthetik for minor or unfixed reasons.
•You like fresh experiences.
•You enjoy a good game, regardless of genre or predefined categorization made by the masses.
•You enjoy a thumping, lively soundtrack with plenty of room for quiet time.
•You enjoy great audible feedback, and the virtual, kinetic feedback associated with fantastic audio design.
•You enjoy science fiction.
•You enjoy violence.
•You enjoy unhinged gun ballistics.
•You enjoy highs associated with good planning, and/or good improvisation.

•You enjoy the thought of worshipping a machinist god who thrives on spilt oil, shattered steel, and electric tears bereaved from the hot barrel belonging the tool of destruction he bestowed into your unworthy synthetic hands.

I won't be able to do this justice, but I'll at least try with a few more words if you're still reading this.

Synthetik 2, in my opinion, is simply worth every cent it asks for.

From the very first moment you begin to grasp the differences between the old and the new, to discovering things about yourself you didn't even know possible with the snap-decisions the game constantly forces you to thread through, the game is constantly seeking to improve your experience through self-taught methods. You TEACH yourself to get better because the game demands it, and because
you WANT to find out what's around the next corner- the amount of random generation in this game doesn't feel inherently, or even unfairly RNG like the first entry did, but rather, feels like there's more and more to be uncovered and played with. Each new toy bestowed upon you by Zir is another tool to be quickly decided upon whether it suits your use, or doesn't appeal to your playstyle.
For example, I don't at all like the lingering effects of the riot grenade launcher- because I move quite fast in my Chrono Trooper buildout, and I don't at all intend to sit around waiting for it to take effect. Conversely, I can see the launcher being useful on Recon- the new class that is more of the sit-and-wait type of playstyle, aligning itself to get the best shot on every target, with positioning used in a more tactical, precise way.

This doesn't even feel like Early Access- the game feels better-suited to be shipped right now than over half the games on-market right now that come from Early Access, or from a AAA developer. It's actually kind of insane, really- and yet despite this, the guys over at Flowfire are truly working their best round the clock to deliver fix upon fix and sustainable content updates based on feedback.
To reinforce this point, they've got a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ "Report Bug" button smack-dab left of the "SAVE AND QUIT" and "QUIT" buttons. A report goes straight to them, along with a screenshot of the game, and your description. An email address entry is optional if you wish to provide additional context to them should they require it, and I would encourage using Nvidia Shadowplay or your preferred game-capture software to grab an accompanying video to post if you so choose to aid in your feedback in an impactful way.

There's much more to say about the game, especially the audio design- but I don't feel prepared to say more than the sparse bits I have here so far. When I reorganize and sit on my thoughts, hopefully I can share more about what this wonderful game has to offer for a single Jackson's worth of currency.

MS Paint Deus Ex with ultraviolence.

If you can take the visuals and the (purposefully) sickening color palette, this game's a damn treat from an era long thought dead.

I can't do this game justice in just a few short statements, but:

Easily one of the best experiences video games can offer.

If you're even remotely interested in a game full of stellar writing, atypically-tough choices, otherworldly narrative, and quality world design, please- do yourself a favor, and don't look any further.

Play, and buy this game. The developers truly deserve it.

Short of Mario Party, just about the greatest online board game you can play with friends.

The best Hitman, outside of 2016, or Contracts/Blood Money. Patches often break some things, but the results end up being hilarious more than frustrating, if I'm honest. Game updates are regular, and Elusive Targets are still as entertaining as ever.

Excellent, well-fleshed sandbox game that deserves your hard-earned legal tender, even off-sale. Rare quality these days.
