“Not a fan of bleak fantasy worlds? Neither was I—until this.”

I’ve never really been drawn to bleak or emotionally heavy fantasy settings. They often come across as needlessly depressing, and I tend to avoid them. But Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 completely changed that for me.

I bought it mainly because the art direction, narrative tone, music, and gameplay mechanics caught my attention—and it delivered far beyond expectations.


As someone who’s logged a lot of hours in Ubisoft titles (just take a look at my profile), I was shocked that this game—developed by former Ubisoft veterans—left a stronger emotional mark than any of their previous works.

This game doesn’t just deserve to be played. It deserves to be shown off. Even if you’re not actively playing it, having it on your Steam profile feels like you’re displaying a small work of digital art.


Don’t let the painterly aesthetics fool you—Expedition 33 can be challenging. At times it flirts with Souls-like difficulty, but it never feels unfair. The mix of real-time and turn-based mechanics keeps the combat fresh and engaging. And the emotional weight of the world gives every battle a sense of purpose.


This is a rare kind of game. One that combines style, story, emotion, and gameplay in a way that feels personal and unforgettable. If you love games that blur the line between art and entertainment, don’t skip this one.

Even if all you do is add it to your showcase—it’s still worth it.
