Okay, let’s be honest: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 isn’t a “big‑budget” AAA project, but you can feel the love and time poured into every frame. The game was built by roughly 30 developers at Sandfall Interactive, a new French studio, not a 400‑person mega‑team.

Why does that matter? Because when I play true blockbusters like Horizon or Final Fantasy XVI, I zoom in and notice micro‑details everywhere—textures, NPC routines, expensive motion‑capture. Clair Obscur can’t match that raw scale, yet every mechanic, every track in the soundtrack, every enemy encounter feels hand‑crafted. The combat blends turn‑based commands with real‑time parry windows, so you’re always engaged rather than waiting for bars to fill.

That painterly aesthetic turns technical limitations into strengths; every scene looks like a living Degas canvas.

Maybe you won’t feel it. But honestly, most modern games leave me empty: another checklist‑open‑world, another soulless live‑service grind. Expedition 33 isn’t perfect, yet it reminds me why I grew up with a PS‑one pad glued to my hands.

So, no, it’s not the best graphics, the biggest world, or the catchiest OST of all time. But in every category it tries, it’s at least great—and you can feel that the devs are players just like us. If, like me, you’re tired of the current industry, give it a shot. It’s part Persona, part classic Square, yet brave enough to carve its own path. I won’t tell you what to think; I just hope you’ll feel something.

This is a positive review—so please try it.
