It Is excellent, albeit it is at its core a very multiplayer game! You -can- play on your own, but the experience will be extremely watered down compared to if you matchmake with others or play with friends.

I love it! I think it is fast-paced and very fun. I very enjoy shooting games, but I tend to not enjoy PVP shooters as much over the years. Having a cooperative one where I get to specialize a little in my loadouts and armor set gives me a lot of flexibility in playing the way I want to play. I think the soundtrack is excellent (Not varied, but the tracks that are there are great), I think most of the special weapons feel very fun in their own unique playstyle, and I don't know who doesn't enjoy calling down a 500KG bomb onto a giant bug.

Excellent, 10/10, Praise Democracy!

A Roguelite City Builder is an unusual combination of genres, but Against the Storm does both of them very well. One of the struggles I have in finding a City Builder I enjoy is finding one that has some kind of end goal. I find many of them either have no real terminating point or concrete goals, and those are valuable to me in this genre. Against the Storm manages to create a game full of goals and full of challenge.

Players will be tasked with achieving various objectives that come at timed intervals while building their settlement, and must gain reputation to offset the rising impatience of the Queen. If the impatience rises too high, the settlement is a failure. I felt that, like a good roguelite, the player is given many choices on how they would like to try to achieve victory. The game is full of options, and I've found many of them to be meaningful. Additionally, it offers a way to ramp up the difficulty at a reasonable and self-chosen pace so players don't have to feel like the game is too easy or too overwhelming for them.

I found the UI to be very friendly. The music is pleasant, and the gameplay feels incredibly balanced and engaging. Meta progression will take the player awhile, but it does give players a goal to work towards that helps influence where they wish to settle new colonies and how they want to be rewarded, and there is a good mix of "Big rewards" in the form of new unlockable starting buildings and perks and "Small rewards" in the form of some incremental bonuses that are helpful but not easily noticed.

All in all, I think Against the Storm is an excellent experience for anyone that enjoys City Builders, Strategic Roguelikes, or has just enjoyed an RTS but wished they could focus almost entirely on Macroplay.

This game is Celeste with Guns. And some visual novel elements and collectibles to go with it. As someone who tends to not really go for hell platforming or for precision shooting, I was a little worried that I wouldn't enjoy most aspects of this game. However, I've found that playing through a level successfully is very forgiving to the player. There's a lot of time to line up shots and I can think of almost no jumps that require unforgivingly tight timing to them. Enemies are all unmoving with very, very few exceptions, and really serve as a means of providing players with weapons and ammo at set places on the level (or 'Course' as I tend to think of it). I believe this allows players of all skill levels to play through the story, and then players can optimize to whatever level satisfies them.

I found the controls to be very tight and responsive. The music is great, the characters are fun, and the narrative was enjoyable. Excellent all-around!

An incredibly enjoyable Rogue-Lite by the makers of Bastion and Transistor. Set in the underworld and rich with Greek Mythology, play as Zagreus trying to escape from the Underworld. Gameplay feels extremely fluid and controls are very tight and responsive. Both a mouse+keyboard and a controller play just fine on this!

Pros:
Soundtrack is great
Humor is on-point
Combat mechanics feel tight and intuitive
Meta-gameplay is rewarding, and while it can take awhile to build up everything, every run feels like I've gained -something- in terms of progression.
Multiple weapons and combat styles so players can do combat in a way that feels good to them.
Plenty of unlocks to be had.

Things to be aware of:
Super duper minor, but most of the dialogue is spoken very mildly, even things I might expect to be a little more enthused, except for one character.
Also super minor, but once you get consistent at beating the game you will have to keep making it more and more difficult to get meta-game items. This is done in a system similar to their other games.

If you're looking for something that has fluid combat and a strong meta-game, then Hades is well worth it. Even now it's incredibly polished and fun, and the developers have a good track record for quality.

Chasm is a Metroidvania game with a little bit more focus on the 'vania'. The player starts off with very little by way of mobility and no magic, and by the end of the game has typical mobility upgrades that allow them to traverse and backtrack to progress through the story as well as save optional villagers and do optional sidequests. It also features an EXP system that gives levels and stats and a town full of villagers to purchase magic, potions, materials, and other things.

I had heard that it had a lot of roguelike elements in the game, and if people are solely looking for a roguelike game, this is not going to be the game for you. Randomization appears to be, based on a playthrough and a half as of the time of this review, critical locations that are set in the same spot with tiles to connect them pulled from a pool of appropriate ones. In the grand scheme of things this means that over all variation is still fairly small, and I haven't really encountered much by way of difference with the exception of unlocking a few villagers in a different order. It does change the gameplay somewhat, but I wouldn't really call it a roguelike. The permadeath system is only unlocked after beating the game once, wherein the player can opt to play on a one-life mode similar to Hollow Knight's Steel Soul mode.

All in all, I enjoyed the experience. The game took about 10 hours to finish, and I suspect it could be done easily in about 6-8 if the player is willing to eat food rather than backtrack for savepoints like I did and they don't focus on doing most of the sidequests or getting all of the map like I did.

The gameplay was fairly fun. I enjoyed the controls and only had a couple of sections where maneuvering felt awkward. The bosses had enough variations that they were interesting, though I think the game's balancing leaves them a little on the easy side and the mini-bosses are a bit of a joke that can be easily cheesed by throwing daggers outside of their aggro range.

TL;DR - I enjoyed the experience and enjoyed the controls, with the occasional bit of clunky platforming. There is enough enemy variation to keep it interesting, though mini-boss AI is a little silly and bosses feel a little on the easy side. The game does not feel remotely like a roguelike, but it is a nice metroidvania. It doesn't particularly feel like it excels at anything besides possibly the villagers and sidequesting which aren't something I see often in metroidvanias, but it manages to not feel particularly poor in any area besides being able to cheese at your own discretion. You might want to wait until it's on sale, but if you really need a metroidvania to play, this will scratch the itch.

It's a very solid Roguelike platformer inspired by Megaman X. I have only casual knowledge and experience with the earlier Megaman titles from the NES, but this does remind me a lot of the time I spent playing them.

The controls feel relatively tight and the gameplay is solid. Progression is done through gaining "Soul Nuts" during a playthrough, which can then be used to buy items that will appear in the item pool during subsequent playthroughs similar to Crypt of the Necrodancer's "Single Zone" approach.

It also offers hardcore modes, daily runs, weekly runs, and hardcore variants of each.

The music is great, and I really love it - It really does a lot to remind me of the original Megaman games that I played and it has a lively pulsing rhythm.

Some of the level generation feels a little unfair, and occasionally the generation will make for some items that are impossible to reach or get. However, it's still a very solid title and I recommend it to fans of Roguelikes and platformers.

Spelunky is a fantastic game. The premise is simple, but the gameplay is suprisingly complex. All you have to do is collect as much money as possible and survive. Every run-through will be different, as most Roguelikes are. There are a variety of items to pick up that will help you in your attempt to survive. The daily run kept me playing this for a long time, as well as unlocking the various characters and filling every entry in my journal. Just be warned that it's a very unforgiving game. You will die. You will die countless times. The first few zones will be littered with your corpses in a very short time span, but there is a large sense of accomplishment the first time you finish the game.
