Early Access Review
Unfortunately the game will not boot past the roadmap screen for me or my friends. Game simply doesn't seem to run properly.

This will be one of my favourite ARPGs of all time. I put hundreds of hours into the first game and adored every moment. First Remnant had a horrendous launch, this game for all intents and purposes has gone by with only a few bumps – massive improvement.

The returning and new NPCs and locations are surprisingly compelling, I really didn't expect to care about the story that much. The visual design of monsters and locations carried a lot of the narrative of the first Remnant for me, I thought it was inspiring – designs that write a story themselves, reminded me of Destiny in that sense. Truly wonderful attention to detail in the worldbuilding here. Not to mention the actual level-design too, it all works in concert with each other and comes off as appropriately masterful. Dialogue is also surprisingly grounded to actual human responses and not Baldur's Gate-level dichotomous choices.

The mechanical design of this game is not necessarily a natural continuation of the ideas of its predecessor, but it manages to make it feel the same despite every piece of the puzzle shifting laterally and introducing more to the fray. It's just more Remnant with some extra rules. The choice of adding more active abilities to the game is an absolutely huge win for me, that's what I've always wanted from these ARPG shooters (borderlands, gunfire reborn, immortal unchained) – more stuff to do with my hands, more things to execute.

also the OST of the Remnant: From the Ashes had a few especially noteworthy tracks on it (Singed boss theme, main theme of course), but the Remnant II OST has been almost exclusively bangers so far for me. The score for scenes really enhances them too, high-class production

Rambling and prattling on for my own sake:

The only thing I need now is to be able to cancel animations with Archetype active ability usage. There is a gap of recovery frames in certain animations that can be cancelled with a dodge roll, I think it would be really cool if you could cancel there with active abilities too. It would make melee combat more engaging, so you could (for instance) swing your greatsword a couple times without having to wait an extra full second before you can use your War Stomp skill. I'm not saying that you should be able to cancel all of the recovery frames, just the same ones that were already cancellable. It would go hard as crud without drastically imbalancing anything.

The thought originated from the desire to slide during those frames instead of dodge (I use an overweight build) but you couldn't make sprint cancel those frames, it's too abusable. Hypothetically, most actions in the game would be able to be improved with Run Cancels. That would be really cool too, but not very Remnant at all.

This is simply one of the best games ever made, a work of poetry decorated in excitement and sex appeal. The best spiritual remake of MGS2 you'll ever play.

One of the greatest games I have ever played with the most consistent updates and balance choices that I agree with. No pay-to-win features in even the most skeptical of degrees.

Regular meaningful and interesting content updates,
cheap skins of incredible quality relative to other competitive games,
tight and competitive tactics,
inspired visual designs (world, set, monsters, characters, weapons) and written codex entries,
it also one of the most ethical pricing/sales/dlc models in the current market

there's so much more, and I could really go on forever but I feel strongly that this game is a masterpiece of different assembled components from several genres and is well worth the asking price: which, more than anything, is your patience to learn and understand it.

Here is the paid content that was removed:

"Removed an intro voice line in Big Band's alternate voice pack.
Removed an intro voice line in Peacock’s alternate voice pack.
Removed the Soviet Announcer voice pack."

They updated colour palettes too, a bunch of Parasoul's (4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 16, 22, 24, 25, 27) and Filia's (1, 3-11, 13, 16, 18-20, 22, 24-28)

https://skullheart.com/threads/official-content-updates-and-revisions.11921/ That is a link from the patch notes to a forum thread that lists the remaining changes made. Before immediately assuming that your values align with those of reviewers, I'd recommend reading for yourself to discern whether or not you find the changes to be ethical. I do.

Complimenting Kynseed:

An absolute marvel of design and masterwork in whimsical fantasy authoring. This resurrects the little kid inside of me that wanted a good Fable 3, and it absolutely perfects the tone and humour and personality of a little studio I came to love ;) thank you so much for creating this. Take all the time you need, games with the kind of attention to detail this one has received take time to complete.

Rambling Nonsense:

not entirely related, but some unsolicited advice i've been giving to some friends recently: stop buying games for what you expect them to become, buy them for their current state. With this mindset I have NEVER regretted a single early access purchase I have ever made, including many projects that were discontinued. If you are essentially donating money to something you want to see happen, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Quit buying games that you want to play later, buy games you want to play now.

I understand that it's frustrating for things to not go your way, but a dev team not having the resources to finish something doesn't make their game suck. If it does suck that's a different story, LOL but things not going to plan doesn't just damn a game.

if you read this far, thanks for lending me your ear. that's really sweet of you. feel free to comment about nightmarish early access games that you feel suck and make me stupid

I think this game is pretty cool, but I wouldn't recommend it to any soul on this earth. (With a caveat below.)

Some of the visuals in this game are absolutely gorgeous (others are hilarious), but a few mechanics are quite questionable. Your characters traverse the landscape like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ car lmao, seriously. Not even just in the overworld but in the dungeons too. Not only while sprinting but moving AT ALL.
If you're playing on a keyboard straight up forget about enjoying this game, it might make for an entertaining challenge run but the stock control scheme is among the worst I have ever heard of. (The control scheme is static, so you would be forced to use JoyToKey or something if you wanted to alter it.) To play this game proficiently with a keyboard it will take time to adjust, and you will always be at a distinct disadvantage in trying to manage the bumper-car tracks your characters are imprisoned in. Your PCs cannot quickly shift their direction as opposed to every popular isometric game ever made, instead, they would rather you slothfully rotate until you are facing the direction you initially intended.
This is significant, most frustratingly, because in order to parry enemy attacks you must dodge TOWARDS them, you must be almost PERFECTLY parallel to them or you'll either end up behind or to the sides of your opponent which can result in being whiff punished in certain scenarios. Of course, angle is paramount to landing any of your attacks or successfully playing footsies with your opponents – as it should be, but draining all the power-steering fluid out of your vehicle and then telling the formula one racer that they just need to be better at driving is asinine lol. Video game difficulty that is engaging and fun to challenge yourself with as a player is always responsive, and is benefited more by the tools offered to the player and often exacerbated by the tools that they are denied. The latter is a common practice among incredibly passionate fans of a game, in which one may attempt a pacifist run in an ARPG or a SL1 run in dark souls or the like. That's fun because all of the assets the player could need to overcome their hardships in a responsive way are already present, and it encourages you to creatively test the limits of the ones that remain.

In Gods Will Fall a major factor in the challenges the game presents are stacked against you starting with the control scheme, and the mechanical limitations of movement, which obviously influences every aspect of an action game in which spacing and timing are key components to every solution. One might say it's just different and that it takes getting used to, I for one think it's a quite distinctly and severely poor choice. At the end of the day, I could only advise someone buy this if they're prepared to laugh at the quirks, because underneath a couple of fundamental problems there's a really enjoyable experience to be had here once you adjust. It's a rough ride, but a wild one.

P.S.: It's much better with friends to watch and poke fun at it (v:
