Saw the beginning on YouTube and decided to play for myself, and I definately made the right choice. Really creepy game and unsettling atmosphere, and that conclusion was shockingly accurate.

I'm gonna be straight with you guys, I never had any faith in this game to begin with, and by the time i got to actually play it, my suspicions had already been confirmed by the "mostly negative" reviews. Before we start, I know this is just the beta, but I'm fairly confident that this game isn't gonna get any better in the foreseeable future.
Let's get to the game: the gameplay is clunky and overall not that interesting. The inability to run makes the human characters feel unbearably slow and the fact that most of the heavy weapons and monsters' attacks stun you for a very long time, makes it basically impossible to escape once you get attacked. The monster side isn't all that better either: you can still get easily stunned by humans and the attack patterns are really sluggish. I think the idea of going with a free-for-all mode was a really stupid mistake, because without a team system every match just feels like complete chaos with no strategy whatsoever: the most you can do as a human is go around picking up the ridiculously overpowered special weapons and spam the dodge and attack buttons whenever you see someone, while as a monster you can just chase people and alternate between LMB/Q/E. That's it, this gameplay offers literally NOTHING more than that. I have no idea why thay decided to take this route while making the game. It's been shown that Resident Evil can work in multiplayer (Outbreak), so why did they make it a freaking PvP deathmatch? If they really wanted to make a competitive game I honestly think that, as weird as it might sound, a traditional asimettrical horror could've been way better. I know that especially in recent times there have been a lot of these types of games that tried to get big and miserably failed, but I'm 100% sure that it still would've been better than this hot pile of garbage.

Let's quicky talk about some details:
-The graphics even at the maximum settings aren't all that great and especially the characters' models look like they belong in the PS3 era.
-The comic book filter is a cool idea but they somehow managed to ♥♥♥♥ that up as well.
-As of now the variety in characters is decent but the game is still lacking on weapons and especially maps (even for a beta only ONE map is a freaking joke).
-The inability to shoot while not aiming might not be a problem for most but to me it just feels off.
-The healing mechanic is just not good: if you kill someone you're most likely going to die to the next person that you meet because you weren't able to find a plant in time, so getting killstreaks is very difficult unless you get extremely lucky.

Overall I'm obviously disappointed by this game, but I already knew this was going to happen so I didn't get my hopes too high up. This is probably just another shameless cash-grab and advertising attempt by Capcom that once again has made a worthless spin-off game that NOBODY asked for. Regardless I think the game is going to die pretty quickly and this will hopefully teach Capcom a lesson, even though I really doubt it at this point. The only people that are gonna keep playing this game are fanboys of the series who just can't accept to fact that a RE game can, in fact, be bad, and they are going to painfully play the game with a big fake smile printed on their face while defending it just because of its title. I know haters gonna hate, but that's just how these things work. Now I'm not the biggest RE fan, but I can safely say that you're better off skipping this turd and stick to the main series. If you get this game bundled with Village just play that and leave this into the unplayed category: you can live much better without it.

Early Access Review
In its current state, this game is an absolute dumpster fire. I know that this is a beta, but keep in mind that this game is set to release in 4 days, and I honestly doubt that it will get any better by then. This game is nowhere near ready, not even for an early access release.

Talking about the game itself, the movement feels clunky and unresponsive, the animations are hilariously bad and the graphics do not reflect what's shown in the screenshots at all. But the biggest problem right now are bugs. Every single game that I joined in my almost 2.5 hours of playtime was filled to the brim with various bugs, some of them even game-breaking: lobbies with two monsters, objects randomly disappearing from the inventory, losing the ability to crouch, the camera clipping through walls, and many more!

The game has problems even from a technical standpoint. The optimization is garbage: at medium settings I get around 40 fps with an RTX 2070 Super and the loading times are way too long, if the lobby even finishes loading that is. Also another thing to point out, if you sit on the menu without doing anything for a couple of seconds the game will just stop responding and then crash, so make sure to change your settings fast. One final note on the game, the italian translation is horrible: I'd probably do a better job for free than whatever automatic translation program they used, so if you're Italian like me, do yourself a favor and set the language to English, you'll thank me.

Needless to say I'm very disappointed about the current state of the game, and as I said in the beginning I know this is a beta, but I'm fairly sure that all the problems that I brought up in this review will stand at least for the first couple of months of early access. This game still has potential: even though I preferred the narrow and claustrophobic spaces of the first game, the random generation in Monstrum 2 is very good and probably the only thing that works properly as of now.

I'll probably come back to the full game once it comes out of early access, but until then I just cannot recommend this game unless you just want to laugh at how bad it really is.
