To my knowledge no, I haven't dabbled in map changing that much yet.
The closest thing I can think of from your conclusion is using changelevel and manually recreating all the intro functionality like I/Os via scanning the appropriate entities responsible for it, but that would be a pretty tall order since all of it has to be timed right for when the actual game fires them to properly sync everything.

It's fine, placing credits in the code's parse config line as comments should be good enough but it can also do without credits either way.
