If you have recently finished Valheim or Terraria and need something to fill the void, look no further.

Early Access Review

Despite the graphical upgrades, I cannot currently recommend this game in its current state. The main quest has a time limit that will expire with no warning, effective preventing you from entering the later stages of the game. On top of this, even when all criteria for the main quest are met, the game does not seem to think that this is the case and once more I am unable to progress with the game. That's about 55 hours of game time down the drain.

Go and play Warband instead, it's actually finished and functional.

Turns out that past ACurlyJew is a hypocrite that couldn't pull himself away from the game. As such, I am now changing my review to recommend this incredible time-sink of a game. Sure, the main quest times out but that's only a problem if you fart around with smithing for 45 hours. A lot has been added to the game since my last review and I would now consider it superior to Warband.

PSA: Before I review this, you can literally uncensor the game by added a .txt file named "xxx" to your game directory.

I really want to recommend this game, but I'm afraid it still needs a couple of tweaks to the difficulty before I do so. Games like this often rely on chance and dumb luck at the best of times, but I feel as if certain mechanics are slightly actively screwing me over at times. They are as follows:

  • Zombies being able to switch out and damage the player in the same turn: if a zombie switches with another zombie, it shouldn't be allowed to attack in the same turn. At the very least, they should suffer a damage penalty.
  • Zombies regenerating health when switched out: Too often would I find myself a couple of clicks away from victory, only to have the zombie switch out with a partner and regenerate all of their health. I feel that you should be able to target specific zombies, if you are going to leave their ability to regenerate in the background on.
  • Zombies having a 100% stun rate: It doesn't really seem fair that a zombie can be guaranteed to stun the rightmost player with absolute efficiency, a chance modifier should be added to this to make things seem more balanced.

Aside from that, the art style is interesting and the game itself is an interesting spin on the typical "match 3" game and I thoroughly enjoy it. I also appreciate that you can play the game one handed...

It's a wild ride of a game with an excellent story. I would recommend at full price for its beautiful soundtrack but because it is on sale, I just want to urge everyone to buy this.
