It is a complete and utter shame that Motion Twin has pulled the plug on development for this game. I've been playing Dead Cells on-and-off since it was in Early Access and every time I come back to it, I get sucked in for weeks trying to progress into higher difficulties. The weapon and skill variety is incredible, the powerful combinations between them are plentiful, and the moment-to-moment gameplay is so snappy that I often find myself trying to play efficiently to get style points like a Devil May Cry game, despite no such feature existing in Dead Cells. The music is top-notch, every frame of gameplay looks like genuine pixel art, and the story is great without subtracting from the gameplay.

The base game is a complete product, worth far more than its asking price, so if you're interested in playing, I suggest starting with that. Then if you find that you like the game, buy and play with each DLC in chronological release order.

The only criticism I have for Dead Cells is that the dev team, Evil Empire, was told to stop development on it in the wake of Motion Twin's next game, Windblown. Everything else culminates in this game being one of the few indie games that are an example of Early Access done right.

Early Access Review
Absolutely pathetic to see that development teams these days go this far to snag a few bucks. I refunded after I spent an hour trying to connect to an NA server, only until I managed to connect to an EU server, made a character, and entered this buggy mess of a sorry excuse for a game, which crashed after I walked past sleeping players (which in an almost trance-like state, predicts the be-all end-all future of this game). Do NOT buy this game. Do NOT support this game. This game is 100% exactly what is wrong with the gaming industry right now. If you are reading this sentence, please leave this page on Steam- the valuable minutes of your life are better spent elsewhere.

It's a fun game to spend extra time on. Can get a bit frustrating but overall, it's alright.

I really want to go achievement hunting, but not after that ending.

Really short, doesn't support my current monitor's resolution of 1280x768, but a great game that I will probably get back to playing sometime.

9/10 worth every penny spent

Dear Scott,

You could have ended it after FNaF 4. You could have stopped there and died peacefully. You could have done humanity a favor. But no. You continued. And you made this literal steaming pile of garbage. I personally am not a fan of the FNaF series, however I don't normally try to trash on it. But this... this is just the worst. No tutorial, basic point and click menu and combat selections, you're lucky I didn't sue you because the buttons on the main menu didn't give me a seizure. Music is overly repetitive and too dainty for nearly any RPG game, loading screens in literally EVERY transition from one area to the next (not to mention the models in such are in a glorious T-pose). I wanted to see how this would go down. The whole FNaF RPG deal. Well... the most I can say is... I put my faith in you Cawthon. And you let me down.

Sincerely, a player of your "game".

0/10 would refund again

Friend got me this for Christmas so I decided to run it tonight. I got into the game and saw that the sensitivity was not to what I'm accustomed to, so I went into the options to change it. When I saved the options, the game crashed. Sadly, Steam made me play at least 3 more minutes of this game so I could post a review about it.

10/10 will show this to my zealously Christian father
