Stop mismanaging beloved games!

I'm not exactly sure where to start with this review, so I'm going to give a little bit of context. Team Fortress 2 was the first entire reason I downloaded steam in the first place and was the main, if not only, reason that I was so extremely excited for the release of Overwatch in 2016. All of my friends at the time were massive fans of TF2 as well and were all incredibly excited to see what the future of class-based shooters held. It seems insane to me that I've only spent around 700 combined hours at the time of writing this review, as it feels like I've invested so much more into this game and community. It brings me no joy to say that in almost every way the game has become worse since it launched, but that is the unfortunate truth. This review is for the original Overwatch, as I refuse to analyze this game in its current state. Overwatch 2 is a shameless attempt at extracting more money from a player-base that the developers simply have zero respect for.

At its core, this game emphasizes the need for good coordination, team-play, and synergies in a way that I've seen very little other games accomplish. This core philosophy can be a good thing for a game in many respects, but I'm afraid is ultimately a detriment to Overwatch long-term. The team sizes in this game mean that everyone makes a huge difference when it comes to winning or losing. Emphasizing the competitiveness of this game ruined it in a lot of ways for me, and was largely pushed by the developers, who invested millions trying to make it the next big e-sport. With every new addition, and even without changing much, the community would always find a "meta". This is common in multiplayer shooters, but is even more prevalent in those with competitive atmospheres. This is only an issue for me because I highly dislike the ever changing dynamic of the game, and how characters can become not viable after a sudden patch. The game relies on distinguishing characters almost solely on their abilities, and this causes a lot of issues for balance. The developers have essentially challenged themselves with making a game that is fun casually, and is fair at all levels of competitive play, especially high level. They have always been intent on addressing the "meta" by absolutely over/under-tuning the other characters and I simply don't find that "ever shifting boat" to be as fun as I once did.
