Honestly think this game can be as good as Dungeon of the Endless if they gave us more decision making in runs. I'll list my personal complaints. You might agree, and you might disagree.


- Dust feels like something they put in after the game was done and made. You will rarely come across dark rooms that need to be fed Dust to be powered. Personally think we should return to the old formula of clearing rooms by using dust (which also means removing spawners and going back to the old door based respawn mechanic.)

- Spawners just suck, okay. They're not fun, If you're playing with 3 friends you can just spawn camp the first 3 spawners. It's silly.

- It doesn't bother me as much as it does others, but I do kind of miss the old dark atmosphere the previous game had. The characters and Album from DotE was written in such a gritty way. It's not a big deal but it added to the enjoyment I think.

- One thing I do dislike, is the sheer amount of "witty" jokes the characters make. I feel like a lot of writers are doing this now because it appeals to the younger audience. Maybe it does? But I find it annoying.

- Super subjective: The guns aren't very interesting. Not much else to say about it other than I think they're not very creative.

- No ability to sell or recycle weapons. In DotE you could sell weapons and get resources depending on the type of merchant. No idea why this isn't here. Maybe because resources are so plentiful already?

- Resources are too plentiful. My friend and I managed to speedrun all the way to the boss without really worrying about the threat of death. Because of the plentiful resources, the main strategy is to just spam turrets and hold choke points such as long corridors.



It's hard to critique this game without talking about Dungeon of the Endless. Which really goes to show how loved the original was. Really hoping the devs take the feedback seriously and improve upon it.

If they had to change just one thing. Please just make Dust more relevant. All the Endless games have Dust as the main mechanic, and it just feels so pointless in Endless Dungeon.

So I'm going to write a real review this time. My last review was made in a bit of a rage as the game's terrible AI caused us to lose.

Just for reference. My two friends and I have completed R1 all the way to R5D1. With the exception of about two E1 levels that we plan on coming back to later. We also do every overload and secondary if the level has them.

I love this game, however, GTFO's philosophy around difficulty is actually kind of frustrating. So much of GTFO's difficulty comes back around to blinding the player with fog. Just about every level in every rundown after you hit layer C1 and over becomes a fog simulator. It is really disappointing that the devs couldn't find a way to add difficulty beyond limiting the player's vision.

Most of the difficult levels become so gimmicky.

"Survive with fog, but this time the fog is denser than usual."
"Survive with fog, but this time you have no disinfection."
"Survive with fog, but this time you have no fog repellers/turbines"
"Survive with fog, but this time we spawn a tank every 4 minutes"
"Survive with fog, but this time activating the generators will make it worse"

The game ALWAYS comes back to fog being the main difficulty mechanic. It's not unforgiving in its challenge, it is boring though. Imagine playing L4D2, but every map was in the sewers but with a tank spawning every 5 minutes. Or Dark Souls had every map being a swamp but didn't give you any moss to cure poison. It's doable, just not entertaining.

Update: We got stuck and lost to 3 tanks spawning near the end. Couldn't do a bioscan because one of my friends got stuck inside the stairs near the exit. Reviving and rejoining did not fix it.

Almost a perfect Swat 4-esque game. So close to being perfect, Civ AI and enemy AI are just so poorly programmed. Every enemy you're up against requires you to nearly kill them. Shooting them in the arm doesn't disarm them/break their morale, so the current "meta" basically requires you to kill everybody you encounter. I'd gladly change this to recommended if they fixed the stupid morale system.

Edit: So close to a perfect game. Suspect AI actually surrender now when you yell at them. Unfortunately the AI reaction time got boosted big time and it's near impossible to peek a corner without losing your head. Will change this review to a recommend when they fix the reaction time.

Bosses: unavoidable attacks, perfect tracking, never ending combos that last for years and attacks that can lead into other attacks.
This game has some of the most frustrating design I've ever seen in a From Soft game. Feels a lot more like a statement than it does an enjoyable video game.

Open world is really cool but it means you're always going to be over geared or over leveled for half the game. Don't bother unless you're doing co-op (which case I'd recommend the Seamless Co-op mod since it uses the same outdated co-op design from the other dark souls games, as well as you can't use the horse in multiplayer).

Knowledge degradation is the simple dumbest thing in the entire game. The fact that people lose their intelligence in a matter of days when you don't dedicate 50% of your population to research is ridiculous. It wouldn't be an issue if knowledge didn't go into the negatives and blocks your already researched upgrades

Please don't buy this until it goes on discount, but even then I wouldn't recommend it. The Devil in Me's concept is cool on paper, but lacks sorely in it's execution. The killer could have been very interesting if they had double downed on the devil hiding in him aspect. But in the end, it is just a generic killer who chases idiot survivors (and the survivors are indeed very dumb) around a mansion. This game has a severe lack of dialogue options and other choices compared to their other games as well as poorly thought out puzzles (looking at you fuse box puzzle) and the game is just extremely buggy in general.

-Lack of impactful choices
-Extremely glitchy
-Puzzles are extremely dumb and poorly thought out
-None of the characters stand out
-Game throws away the 'Devil in Me' plot
-Characters seem to make dumb choices as a way to give the killer more power in the story
-Game sometimes takes choice away from the player

+New mechanics that will hopefully be expanded upon in future games
+Saw-esque escape rooms are fun to figure out with a friend
+Genuinely terrifying antagonist for the first couple of hours
