I highly recommend this if you enjoy stealth-action games. Overall, the gameplay is dope, the fashion is "unique" and the story is bonkers (and definitely NOT Deus Ex). I'll get the bad out of the way 1st. A conversation about transhumanism is needed as we become one with our technology. However, I think the only thing DE:HR manages to get right in that department is the potential for mass surveillance for corporate interests. Fortunately, unlike other games with weak main plots, it's not particularly crippling to my enjoyment of this game since each quest is well written in a vacuum. I simply wasn't satisfied by the bigger picture. If you're here for crazy, kooky, conspiracy ♥♥♥♥, then you're not going to become one with an AI in Area 51, but you are going to have fun piecing together your own assassination attempt for a while.

The stealth in this game is incredibly well balanced. Each area feels very difficult but fair. I'm playing on "Give Me Deus Ex" cuz I'm a pro gamer. Each and every room had me stressing out. By switching my "Toggle Cover" button to Mouse3 and "Aim Down Sights" to M2, I was able to move through much of the early game like a SWAT guy, taking out anyone that saw me sneaking around their various restricted facilities. But at some point, the tactic stopped working. My resources dwindled rather quickly whenever I was stuck in a longer firefight, I was dying more often, and the game was generally a lot harder. This is a good thing. You really have to work for a lethal run and optimize your build and tactics for it. This is a stealth game more in the vain of... well, Deus Ex 1 and Metal Gear Solid 3 than Amnesia or Alien: Isolation. If you want to take out the enemy guns-a-blazin', it may be best to sneak up behind them and fire at them from a flank, lining up a few guys as you do.

No matter how you play Deus Ex HR, it's just hands-down fun. Yes, you do need to save ammo for the (goodish to bad) boss fights, but you have a huge degree of freedom to do as you please. Sometimes that means Jensen faces no consequences for shooting up Detroit PD so the story can keep going, but it's insane to me that the game allows you to just waltz in like the Terminator and start racking up former colleagues. This game is wild. 8/10

This review is 10 years and 300 hours too late. The game is almost perfectly balanced. There is a problem with aimbots but they usually get voted out of the game. Everyone is nice. Somehow, after over a decade after release, there are still 80k daily players (myself included). Not enough updates these days. Great fun still

SERIOUS_SAMURAI's "Helm's Deep Reborn" custom map breaks your game (and your PRIVATE server) and valve censors anyone on the forums talking about it. I fully recommend this game on the whole, but I will not change my review unless he is disallowed from uploading to the workshop.

I actually genuinely love this game. It's great. Unfortunately, there is no respawning in COOP. AGAINST BOTS. Ain't even real people. Game still forces you to WATCH more than you play. No matter how well I am actually performing, I will die. It takes forever to get back into the actual game. I get that that may be the point, but that is awful design. Every other "realistic" or "arcade-realistic" (or whatever you want to call these sorts of) tactical shooters has the player respawn, even if it's a slow process. This game is great but you'll be watching it more than you're playing if you're not good yet

One of the only games I've listed as "Perfect"

♥♥♥♥♥♥ story, but Doom and Quake are perfect games, but they have awful stories too. A must play for any shooter fan. Don't be worried if you are sensitive to horror. This game is not scary in the slightest

The game is literally all ice until the huge lvl. 20 area, The Highlands. DLC is mostly fun. It's a 6 or 7 out of 10. The real draw is the massive amounts of randomized, and frankly fun weapons, well designed, if not rather static enemies at times. Most of them incorporate movement into the shooting but Rage accomplished the same thing much better.

In fact, go play Rage on the highest difficulty and push into the enemy with your strongest weapons. Spam bandages. That game quickly becomes a true rough-gem style masterpiece. Playing that game as intended is wrong. Spam bandages.

Borderlands has a billion guns and a bunch of varied enemies to test them out on. That's it. The character and even general writing is Anthony-Birch tier. Fun with friends. I have 3 characters.
