It's rough, there's bugs, and there's no tutorial or guide in how to get going. Yet. But the more you play it, the more you see glints of briliance between the issues, and with a good amount of polishing we're likely to have something quite special here, and I'm very excited to see where this goes.

Typical Bethesda game. Slow burner at start, which eventually opens up into a 'vast' but ultimately crushingly boring shallow puddle. It is like the dull uncle who makes your friends cry with boredom when trying to entertain them with cringeworthy magic tricks during your 8th birthday party.

Far from perfect, but nevertheless an excellent game well worthy of a purchase.

The story is mostly gripping and you can generally excuse weaker written parts in order to keep the momentum going. While the main story arch is largely railroaded, you nevertheless get a certain impression of agency that lessens the frustration - and they have walked a fine balance to achieve an antagonist who will have you grit your teeth in genuine anger and frustration.

A return to form for Egosoft, and we finally have a successor to X3.
As per usual with Egosoft games, it is a buggy release - but devs are working hard at fixing and have exciting additional contect planned for down the line.

More of an interactive story than a game, which is generally not my cup of tea... but this gripped me with a vice.
It completely sucked me in, and my time with Orwell left me jumping between being some sort of investigative superman uncovering and destroying the great evils and... a babbling buffoon playing puppet master and grand inquisitioner with ill understood strings at my beck and call - all the while recoiling in horror at my pernicious burrowing into other people's lives.

One little connection between seemingly unrelated and irrelevant titbits made, and dozens of lives are irrevocably destroyed. Do you rejoice at the thought of such power?

Also, of particular interest and thought provoking for people living in the UK - and other high surveillance/monitoring nations. Big brother is always watching, but is blind to context.

Get it. Play it.

Solid and interesting game that's a bit of fresh air, in an often stale and itirative genre.
Any reference to 4x style games is misleading however - this is strictly a management game. Exploration and Expansion are non-existant. Extermination is relegated to an arbitrary phase of 'whack the mole' of whichever enemy ship/fleet that spawns every two turns. Exploitation is where it's all at.
Some of the other reviews that label it as a beaurocrat simmulation aren't far off, And if you're expecting anything but a management style game, you're likely to be sorely disappointed.
That said, though, this game scratches an itch most devs have not reached for in a long time.

Paid less than £2 for this tripe, and still feel shafted. I seem to remember a time when the Jane's prefix meant brilliant simulator, yet this plays pretty much like afterburner with a lick of paint, and is to flightsims like a glass of water to the oceans.

Terrible game. In an effort to appeal to a completely new audience, Egosoft have managed to betray their old fan base by commiting that greatest of sins - Turning a beloved original series steeped in tradition and depth into a casual, brainless button masher. PC gaming have lost another pillar of excellence to the endless onslaught of the drooling console masses - and this time without the game even coming out on them.. yet clearly designed for the xbox. The joys of a stillborn game ported to its formerly native platform.

I truly hope the first five days cash-in was worth sacrificing it all for, Egosoft.
