This game is clearly preying on nostalgia and uses time-wasting gimmicks to get you to play past the 2 hour window.

The initial gameplay is a flashback to the intro of the first movie. Like... 1:1. Thats pretty cool, or it would have been if I didnt see seams in the textures for some of the characters.

I preordered the $100 version, and after almost two hours of playtime I hadn't been given access to the items that came with it.

The graphics on ULTRA remind me more of doom 3 than a modern videogame. Again, texture seams. Shiny textures that still somehow look dull. It just looks bad.

I never even bothered with the gun because ammo is scarce and the game very clearly wants you to go the stealth route. And considering how the melee/unarmed combat handles, I'm sure they gave us a peashooter.

Stealth is just bad. You can be seen across a courtyard in the dark, while crouched behind a box because you peeked out slightly. But then two seconds later you can crouch walk right up in front of the guard and he doesnt see you until you are mere feet away.

The melee weapons, at least a lot of them, break after 2-3 hits. They are also required in order to knock enemies out. Perhaps there is an upgrade somewhere that fixes that, but I never found it.

Speaking of, all upgrades in the game need to be found or purchased with the game's currency. And then you need to spend points to unlock them. Points you can only get by finding items and notes.

THE. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. DOORS. Every time you go through a door that requires a key, you have to hit tab to select the key, insert it, turn it and open the door. With button prompts. I feel like I spent a quarter of my time just opening ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ doors. I dont get why they didnt just include a system that reads whether or not you have the key to the door, and allow it to be opened normally.

Right now I rate it a 3/10, purely because indy's VO did a great job and it DOES deserve some nostalgia points. Will return in a year to see if it is more worth it.

I have one issue with the game so far. That being an objective didnt trigger properly and i had to roll back to a checkpoint five minutes back.

The combat is great. The enemies are great. The weapons are amazing. The overall atmosphere and gameplay and phenomenal. I can keep my graphics settings on ultra and retain 80+ FPS and ZERO STUTTERING. My only complaint is that, as far as i am aware, operations require you to play with other people and while I have a couple friends that bought the game, they arent always around and i dislike playing with randoms.

Edit: Do not buy this game.

In order to go anywhere in the game (leveling, ship upgrades, medals and super creds) you need to play above level 6. If you want to go anywhere at faster than a snails pace, you need to play max difficulty and you need to do it a lot. I am one of the unfortunate people in the world that has a full time job and a life, and i am far behind many of my peers simply because I dont have as much free time or desire to grind this game like they do. The only other option is to spend real life money in order to unlock warbonds and purchase items in the super store using super credits.

The game has been out for over seven months. We have received relatively few new additions to mission types, planet types and enemy types compared to the two base and five additional warbonds that people can pay real money to unlock. They have been teasing a third faction for most of the game's release and as of yet it hasnt materialized. We also continue to have many bugs and issues with the game that are not being fixed. For example, enemies can THROW MY MECH because of physics bugs. Or my favorite, being launched into ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ orbit by an enemy, again, because of physics bugs and dying when I normally wouldve just been ragdolled and allowed to stand back up. And who can forget, dropping mission critical items when picking up ammo and not realizing it until youre halfway across the map despite the bug supposedly being "fixed" several times.

The dev team also has zero clue how to balance anything and keeps claiming its for "realism" when we are fighting a numerically superior force with superior armaments at every turn. Oh, and the fact that we are fighting GIANT SPACE BUGS AND COMMUNIST ROBOTS. If they wanted realism, then the flamethrower should be capable of killing anything in the game within a few seconds of continuous fire, and the autocannon should penetrate ALL armor because it would be, at minimum, a 20mm AP projectile. But that is beside the point. The dev team is obsessed with eliminating the "meta" builds and believes that the best way to do that is not to bring everything UP to the meta's standard but rather to take every "meta" in the game and nerf it until it doesnt work for ♥♥♥♥ while making enemies harder to kill or more viscious in thier attacks (Seriously, why do rocket devastators STILL have so many rockets?).

The community is also growing more and more toxic as the regular players continue to leave and the hardcore players think themselves better than everyone else because of it. There have been many, many accounts of players abusing the game's systems to screw other players. Such as being so angry that a random went to call for extract instead of the host that the host ended the game right at the end and caused the entire squad to lose the progress from the match. That is a real thing that happens on a not uncommon basis. I was once kicked because I was "taking too many kills" in a game where kill count doesnt matter to your score.

All in all, this game is going downhill fast. The devs have lost ~92% of thier players. That isnt a joke, I just did the math going from thier all time peak player count to thier current 24 hour peak. That is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ embarassing.

Due to the fact so many countrys continue to have the game delisted, I am setting my review to negative until they are allowed to purchase the game again.

I am keeping my original review here because it is part of history now. However, I am changing my recommendation to yes, and may write up a full fledged review now that SONY has backtracked.

Loved the game in its entirety for the first few weeks. It was always a bit weird that I had to play the game naked because it lights my pc on fire, but it never reached above 82c so I didnt think it was so bad. Balancing patches kinda put a bad taste in my mouth, but I kept playing because thats something I can adapt to. New content drops allowed me to consistently upgrade my build and play however I wanted, and until yesterday I was singing this games praises to everyone.

But now I have to create a psn account to play? I dont have a playstation. I dont want one. I paid a lot of money for this computer to play games on it. And while yeah, it would take me like five minutes to make a burner email and set up a psn account, i shouldnt have to. I try not to have my information out there on too many places. Ive deleted most social media, old web accounts, etc. because I dont want to make it easy for someone to ♥♥♥♥ up my life.

But in the end, it is the principle of the matter. SONY is a POS company that has held the gaming industry back for years and am sick of it. If the account linking requirement is lifted, I will continue to play. If not, I will be looking to refund. I am sick of corporations shoving their noses into things I like and ruining them, and I see this as the first step towards a downward spiral that will kill this amazing game.

TL;DR: Gun go PEW PEW PEW and bad guy go AHH OH GOD HE BLEW OFF MY ARM!!!1!

15/10.

I only had two issues in the entire game. It froze up a handful of times but eventually recovered, and it crashed three times. Over the course of a 14 hour playthrough. The only other bad thing I can say is that the malfunction sequences kinda gave me a headache at times so be aware of that.

I have nothing else bad to say about the game so heres the good:

You genuinely feel like a walking tank for most of the game. When youre facing down basic enemies theyre no match for you. But you face bosses here and there, or massive crowds of heavily armed and armored enemies that actually require tactics and sometimes you just gotta fall back and try to find better weaponry or utilize the environment. It feels just like the movies portray.

There is an overall story arc where you have to decide whether you are human, machine, or in between. This was something I really wished was explored more in the movies, rather than murphy being more or less forced to pretend he is nothing more than a machine despite being a man trapped in a robot body.

The investigation mechanic of trying to find all the secrets in the game was particularly fun, but I am a bit of a secret hunter so your mileage may vary. That said, some secrets grant you access to powerful upgrades or alternate solutions to dialogue choices.

The reason behind robocop's malfunctions actually makes sense, and I picked up on it early. I didnt feel like it was a stupid explanation, or that it completely blindsided me.

I do have remarks regarding the bonus content so im doing those separately. I enjoyed using the blue skin for robo and the black gun skin, but I particularly want to talk about the shotgun you get from the alex murphy edition. Its all but useless. You get a miniscule amount of ammo for it, you never find any pickups in the game and you can find and pick up better weapons that you can replenish the ammo supply of starting from the earliest missions. Its nice to have something you can just dump at the start and get a better weapon after, but I dont think that outweighs the negatives of it. I do not recommend unless you REALLY want the skins that come with it.

I bought this game nearly three years ago and while I will admit I have had fun with it, it is disgusting that the devs decided to move away from the actual story, THE LAST EPISODE MIND YOU, to start uploading some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DLC crap that everyone hates.

Just release episode five for ♥♥♥♥♥ sake, that is ALL that we want. We want to know who this ♥♥♥♥ is gonna end.

I will update this review in the future, should hinterland pull their head out of their ass.

This DLC is atrocious, do not buy.

I thought I would give it a chance, since I have every other piece of dlc. That was a huge mistake. Literally every piece of equipment, every weapon and most of the vehicles and mounted weapons can be found on the workshop. Not only that, but those FREE MODS are significantly higher quality. It kind of looks like the stuff in this mod was ripped out of arma 2, or taken from free mods on the workshop. If I wanted my game to look like arma 2, I would just go and play arma 2.

I would implore bohemia to revamp this entire dlc or take it down, because it is a slap in the face that they really thought we would be willing to pay for and use such a massive, steaming, stenchy pile of ♥♥♥♥

The game is incredibly fun, I got almost three hours into it last night. You start with at least some of the abilities you ended the previous game with, there are new saber stances that make combat so much more dazzling, the force powers have been amped up even more (mind control for one, but no more spoilers after this i promise), there are new gameplay mechanics that are really cool and hell i am more than thrilled with the new customization system for cal. I have had zero crashes or glitches and the only thing thats bad is performance. cal is back, and he seems like a powerhouse right out of the gate with a food story that i am looking forward to unravelling.

I did have to set my graphics to medium to get a consistent 60-90fps. id go as far as to guarantee a lot of these negative reviews about performance are from people trying to max out the games graphics at launch (not to take away from people that have better similar/better rigs and are having genuine problems). Which in an of itself is a bad idea, one that shouldve been learned from after the release of cyberpunk. It looks fine at medium settings on my 3090, its well worth the wait for a patch because the gameplay is so amazing. Highly recommend.

Far Cry New Dawn, where should I begin...

I suppose I will start with the good parts.

-The guns for hire have a mix of new faces and old. I particularly like the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ grandmother "nana".
-the new system of crafting weapons and vehicles in tiers was pretty cool. I actually liked the aesthetic of the weapons, barring the vomit inducing paint schemes you are forced to have on many of them.
-It was fun to drive through areas and go "hey wait a second I know where i am!"
The game is BEAUTIFUL. I have the advantage of running a very powerful machine but even so, the game looks great.
-There is actually a nice progression system, at least in my eyes. I remember in the previous title you were fairly overpowered from the start but in New Dawn you have to be careful to be equipped for the enemies youre going to be facing.
-*beards and mustaches for male characters*

And now for the bad. Be prepared, this will be a long read.

-First and foremost, the game is WAY too short. Seriously, there is less than half the content in this game than there was in the falls end region in 5. I managed to beat the entire game in a day.
-The guns for hire system was changed to only allow one at a time. This was upsetting because a: it required me to do more work and b: i miss the quips they had with eachother in the last game.
-There isnt any customization to the weapons in the game. Find a rifle you love and would like to put a suppressor on it for stealth missions? Too bad, you gotta see if there is a similar weapon that has one and use that.
-There is a severe lack of customization in the game compared to 5. There are few outfits, no skins for vehicles or weapons and as mentioned before there is no weapon customization.
-While the game looks pretty, the colors are seizure inducing. it seems the developers love hot pink. But on top of that, we also have ♥♥♥♥ that just doesnt make sense. White deer with red antlers, animals that have somehow evolved bone patterns on their fur, fields and forests of flowers in all kinds of colors. and the water is actually, genuinely blue.
-The map has its recognizable spots, but for the most part I couldnt tell where I was. I beat fc5 three times. I know the map well. I can understand there being some landscape change over almost twenty years but not this much.
-The vehicles are few in number (which is understandable i suppose) and in my opinion all look kind of the same. white paintjob, red decals and weird welded diamond plates everywhere. theyre honestly pretty ugly to look at.
-Most characters from the previous game do not return and their fates remain unknown. That wouldve been fine if it didnt exclude so many characters.
-Some parts of the map I just never visited because there was nothing to do there except collect resources. by the time i got halfway through the game, i already had more than I needed.
-The lore is far harder to come by. Not so much for lack of it, but the fact I beat the whole game in half the time it took me to fully complete the falls end's section in 5.
-The tier system was cool and all, but it was only there because enemies are tiered too now. There are several sections where your weapons are taken from you and you end up having to use tier 1 weapons against tier 3-4 enemies. Just isnt feasible.

Overall, I am very disappointed in this game. It shouldve been a 20-30 dollar expansion to Far Cry 5.

Early Access Review
Update: The devs have updated the game since I posted this review, and even included the ability to mod the game from the main menu. It is much more fun to play now, though I am unsure how much of it is due to the dev updates or the overhaul mod I have installed. Overall, I could see myself endorsing this game now and am changing it to "recommended"

I cannot recommend this game in its current state. It has its moments, but overall i will be playing swat 4 until this game is updated quite a bit. I am well aware that this is an early access title, but it leaves a lot to be desired. As for me, I dont have much time in this game but I am no stranger to military sims or tactical shooters. I also do not have friends that own this game, and thus my experience is from a singleplayer viewpoint. With that, onto the good, the bad and the suggestions.

The Good
-There is a decent amount of customization as far as load-outs go. You can go lethal or non-lethal with variations in between.
-There are numerous types of equipment and grenades to use in pacifying targets or giving yourself a tactical advantage while clearing rooms and hallways.
-The squad order menu is easy to use and covers every situation i have been in so far.
-Depending on the map there are quite a few options as far as mission types go, and they are randomized each time.
-The "lobby" map that serves as a hub is fairly detailed. it includes a shooting range, a shooting course, places to change your kit and they even included a civilian you can (somewhat) practice your arrest procedures on.
-The use of saved loud-outs makes equipping you and your AI teammates quick and easy.
-The ability to change armor levels, materials and what parts of your vest you put plates into is new and i gotta say, i like it.

The Bad
-The game is severely over-hyped. Its cool and all, but it isnt blowing me away the way i thought it was going to.
-Damage is inconsistent. Some enemies take multiple body shots to go down, some take one. I can take six rounds to the chest/arms and keep going but then in the next mission someone stabs me twice and im dead.
-The teammate AI is wonky at best. i ran maybe two dozen missions in my playtime so far and numerous times they got stuck in the middle of open rooms and refused to move.
-Some missions have game-breaking bugs or missing objectives. I believe the most prominent ones I found were in the meth houses with the tunnel system (twisted nerve i think?). One of the packages of meth was nowhere to be found. all guides that I checked were either wrong or not up to date. In the same mission, I keep getting a missed objective to report on a dead officer but their body is nowhere to be found. I spent an hour rechecking every inch of the map, did not find either.
-The longer you stay in the mission, the laggier it gets. It isn't a question of my tower's capabilities, just I noticed the longer I remain in a mission (oftentimes looking for a glitched objective) it begins to lag more and more.
-Enemies WILL shoot you through solid walls even if they cannot see you. I was killed several times while approaching doors or hallways because the enemies inside adjacent rooms shot through the walls.
-Some enemies will also get stuck on thin air, and will refuse to surrender. This did lead to some humorous moments of me and my team shouting at them while they kept saying various lines of gibberish or threats but it also lead to us being forced to kill them.
-Perhaps it is because I haven't spent enough time familiarizing myself with each weapon, but recoil is insane in this game. Despite the attachments claiming to mitigate recoil, I still cant accurately spray down targets unless the barrel is in their nose.
-Numerous other bugs/graphical issues that I dont care to list lest I'm here all night (plus they have a bug report feature for that)

Recommendations
-Give a description of the setting of each mission. For example some missions take place during the day, some take place during the night. I would like to know before the mission begins whether or not i need to have a flashlight or NVGs without having to play the mission first.
-Institute a training course. Everything I know I had to learn by accident, by sifting through the player made guides or thoroughly checking the key bindings. I would also love to have something included where I can practice with the AI teammates.
-A complete armor system. IE, give me the option to put armor on my legs and forearms, and the ability to mix and match. the devs are actually almost there already (refer to my comment on the armor system in the good list).
-Medical supplies would be great. Right now you can "stop the bleeding" but I would like the ability to patch myself up a little more.

When or IF things improve, I will update this review. For now, I highly recommend checking out SWAT 4 or Rainbow Six Vegas 2 if you are looking for a similar style of game.

Early Access Review
love this game. at least, i did until the new updates. i still love the game somewhat, as before it was lots of fun and i had many memmorable and funny experiences with this game. there was one problem though. when they updated the game, my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ computer couldnt keep up and now all i get is around 10-15fps and everything takes up to an hour to load. im fairly sure it is still a great game, but be carefull if you have a bad computer.

pros:
-lots of crafting otpions not only for housing and shelter, but for tools and medicine as well.
-the animal ai is nice, and the attacks can be terrifying if you are caught unprepared.
-nice amount of new items and bigger islands
-you can create your own map now, which was a huge bonus considering my character started off on a small island with nothing but a few sticks and rocks with one or two peices of scrap material laying about and was able to move to one where i had spawned in some things to help get me started.
-great survival simulator
-fairly difficult right off the bat, as sometimes you spawn next to a shark, and sometimes you spawn on a really small island like i did.
-looks great

cons:
-new update makes it almost unplayable for people with ♥♥♥♥ computers
-new systems were a little confusing at first
-i have to put it to the lowest graphics possible and it still ony gives me around 15fps
-get repetitive after you build up a nice base and stockpile supplies. but this can take a while if you want it to be perfect and look nice

overall, a great game from what ive played so far. i love survival simulators and this one is one of my favorites. i hear that multiplayer and escape are being thrown around as ideas. if you have a good computer, i would recommend this game
