A short narrative-driven game, though I wouldn't say resource scarcity or choice are particularly important. All the same, I really enjoyed the dialogue and characters and story!

If I had one real criticism, it would be that the game didn't set tones for particular things. Sometimes there is magic, sometimes there isn't. Sometimes it's a gag, and sometimes the power crystals really do work. If you have those kinds of things in a game about limited resources, it's probably best to let the player know that it will or will not work. Especially when it intersects with major story events.

Generally speaking, really solid. It's a bit broader than it is deep with the number of mechanics introduced, so it's not going to supplant Isaac as a roguelike or Oxygen Not Included as a colony sim. But that's okay, it's still a great game in its own right!

I think my biggest complaint would just be that it gets quite grindy the further you go. And if you're good enough to one-shot each attempt, you'll find you have to do re-runs just to unlock some stuff or meet some characters. After 20 hours, I'm not sure I want to spend that much longer doing the post-game boss repeats now. I DID want to upgrade the temple completely, but it just requires SO MUCH of a specific resource it would take another few hours of just grinding that out for what amounts to cosmetics.

It's a cool concept and I enjoyed most of it, but at the end it all just falls apart horribly.

The antagonist is just a goofy "social media bad" message that isn't explained in even the slightest. All the "good" endings come from being an atrocious human being who constantly lies, violates privacy flagrantly, implicitly trusts a sex offender and an abuser with intimate details, deceives the police, etc. If you were to play this as if you were actually trying to solve a potential kidnapping / murder, you're 100% getting the worst possible ending and have to start over from scratch.

This is "ignore red flags and trust all men", the game. It's downright crazy that a supernatural horror game about a missing woman fails the Bechdel test.

A lot of fun, though a bit too long. But I genuinely couldn't finish this game, there's something technically wrong with it. It seems like the game's tickrate is really low and the motion interpolation it does results in an awful jutter / ghosting affect whenever the camera is in motion. It's a lot more bearable if you cap the framerate at 60hz, but I just couldn't work through it... I feel physically sick after about 10 minutes.

If you aren't prone to motion sickness, give it a whirl! If you are, it's worth watching a playthrough on Youtube!

Maybe I'm missing something, but it's VERY easy and there's really not much to do. The only time I lost was when I was goofing off trying dumb builds, like starting with no towers. Heck, most of my games I didn't even take damage at all. The aesthetic is lovely, but there's not a lot of gameplay - it's basically just sitting there watching black blobs die for 60 minutes at a time - and after 4 or 5 runs I don't really see anything happening in terms of meta.

As someone who loves Red Orchestra and Rising Storm and appreciated Squad and all sorts of games in this same vein, this game is just awful. Pretty much every game is a steam roll for one side and unless you get really lucky and have good leadership, it's just a boring, aimless slog.

Just go play a better game.

EDIT: Ah, gave it another try. Every other game voice comms were broken and needed a full game restart. VOIP stuck "disconnecting...".

It's clear that the people most disappointed by the release was Hello Games themselves. They spent the next 8 years hunkered down doing everything they could to make the game they promised it would be.

Maybe it's still not there, the bar was just so incredibly high, but they've really tried and that's commendable. Right now, NMS isn't my cup of tea because of the genre and UI, but it's certainly worth a positive review for the genre.

Damn, I just love the Endless universe and that Amplitude aesthetic. This is a good game and I listen to the soundtrack while I work.
