I love this game. When I saw it debut on steam It nearly brought a tear to my eye. I used to play this game on disk in my younger days and kept it working via mods on modern systems. To see it come back and be updated the way it has warms my heart.

I revisited this game because I heard it was in a better state than when it came out; this is more or less true. I stand by my previous statements based on the state of the game and my frustration at the time. The game as it stands now is actually pretty fun. I'd say get it when it's cheap though.


People say this game still has that "battlefield" feel but it really doesn't. This is a bastardized, watered down version of a once great series. This what happens when battlefield tries to be something it's not: Call of Duty. This manifested in the most obvious way with the specialists. I completely disliked the idea of having specialists instead of basic classes with distinct factions. Sure the old factions were just re-skins, but it was nice to be a grunt fighting grunts of another nation. The whole "ex-pat" thing is just stupid in my opinion. Now the launch of this game was just unacceptable. The main component "All Out War" didn't even work the first day. The bugs should have been ironed out before hand or the launch should have been delayed. Plus, no voice chat at launch? The maps look cool and are big but they lack substance. There's nothing really interesting that you're fighting over. Just copy and paste sky scrapper points, garages, and the occasional court yard. The portal seemed like a cool idea at the time but once again the game in its current state ruins it. There feels like a lack of content too. The amount of guns in the base game is pretty laughable compared to others in the series. The game-play just feels off to me as well. It doesn't mesh well with the map design in my opinion. I really dislike playing this game in its current state. I'm sure this review will age poorly and they'll make it better. The fact of the matter is that they should have started strong in the first place and the developers failed to do so. Battlefield has had bad launches in the past but why does it have to? Hopefully this game turns into something good because in its current state it just isn't

It's way better than the first one

When I first saw that this was coming out I was beyond hyped. There aren't many modern Vietnam War games so I was thoroughly excited. I finally got a key during the last few waves of the beta and I played the hell out of it. To put it bluntly, I love this game. I find it way more enjoyable than both Red Orchestra 2 and Rising Storm. In my opinion it is much more accessible than its predecessor. I'm looking forward to seeing what the developers add in the future.


The developers have added the South Vietnamese and Campaign mode since. Both are amazing free updates. Please keep them coming.
