The evidence is clear: toxicity in Counter Strike 2 grows in the face of inaction

Formed by Valve in the first half of 2017 after months of consultation with the community, the CS:GO Ethics Enforcement Committee (now the CS2 Ethics Enforcement Committee) sought to discourage and take direct action against persistent abusive behaviour in the game.

Continental representatives were appointed soon after, endowed with the responsibility of formulating and executing local 'Direct Action Plans' uniquely tailored to address their area's conventions of disruptive and abusive behaviour.

As Oceanian representatives, our Direct Action Plan, albeit confidential, has proven effective in decreasing the level of toxicity in competitive Counter Strike and we are unapologetic in our pride of this achievement. However, there is still ample work to do.

We operate via a simple maxim, "if you witness any instance of toxicity, you must engage with it on a level that exceeds the perpetrator's." Abiding by this maxim ensures a tough response that seeks to deter the offender from engaging in reckless behaviour so unwittingly in the future.

Representatives are allocated shifts by the international Committee in which they are tasked with entering competitive games at random to collect data, survey player attitudes, and most importantly protect the community against instances of toxicity if they happen to arise. This information is accordingly recorded, reviewed, and used to assess the effectiveness of the Committee as well as provide indications of any necessary changes in approach. The Committee is active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
