This is a great JRPG. If you have played the Persona games and you need more, then this game is for you!

If you have not played the Persona games yet, then I would recommend you to play those first, especially 4 if you don't mind an older game. If you don't want to play a bit of an older game, then play Persona 5. If you don't like the Persona games, then you probably won't like this.

The game is pretty poorly optimized, and pretty much requires you to use Upscaling to compensate for it, but even then it has stuttering issues. I would be careful of getting this game right now.

I feel like I have now familiarised myself with the game enough to give a solid opinion on it. I will only talk about the PvE mode and a bit of the campaign, there will be no spoilers if you are worried about that. The campaign is solid aside from two problems I will mention later. It is a pretty stereotypical action campaign with hardass soldiers as the characters. I personally beat it at around 8.5 hours, and it didn't overstay its welcome. I wish there was a bit more spectacle closer to the start of the game though.

When I started playing the game it felt very clunky and unresponsive, but the more I played the more I understood how to actually play, and I think this is because of 2 reasons.

1. The game doesn't do a great job of explaining to you exactly how mechanics work.

2. At the start of the PvE mode and for all of the campaign you use the worst versions of the weapons that are unupgraded and doesn't have any perks to them, which is where a lot of your power comes from.

All in all, the combat feels good, but there are some problems when it comes to the progression of the game and and what feels like some oversights. I will order these problems in how severe I think they are.

1. There aren't enough maps in the PvE mode. For the amount of grinding the game wants you to do to level up your weapons and classes to max, 6 missions just aren't going to cut it. Especially when 2 of them feels like a slog to get through. This would easily be remedied if you could earn some sort of progression through the campaign, even if it would be just for your weapons. Which you cannot at this time.

2. In combat there are some annoying things that I suspect might have been oversights or design choices that they didn't really think long enough to see the problem. The biggest problem in my opinion is the health system and secondly the killshots.

You get health back by using stimpacks that are somewhat hidden around the map, but the amount that they heal are very low, so there really isn't a good reliable way to get health back.

The second problem are the killshots. A killshot is when you stun an enemy you get a sight icon on them that when you shoot you execute them pretty fast and get some armour back. The problem with this system is that it locks you into an animation without invulnerability. So in the act of trying to get armor back, you could end up in a worse situation you were in because you cannot dodge or block while in the animation.

3. There aren't enough animations. The melee weapons currently have 2-3 different animations depending on the enemy you are executing, that is supplemented by 1-2 universal animations that everyone can do regardless of the weapon currently equipped. There aren't enough of animations in the game currently for the amount of executions you are going to do, it feels like we need 1 maybe 2 more animations per weapon. Meanwhile, the bosses are even worse of, they all have 1 animation each. That's it. It doesn't matter what weapon you are using, it is only one animation.

4. The campaign difficulty is balanced around a full team of players, which can easily turn people off, especially considering that one of the higher difficulties are considered the "intended" difficulty which is balanced around a full team.

Now on to some technical problems and more miscellaneous oversights:

There is a problem with playing through the campaign in CO-OP, only the host actually progresses their missions, which is a problem when all of the online missions are tied unlocks to the campaign missions.

Demanding you to install Epic Online Services to play the game when running for the first time is very scummy. Especially considering the fact that this isn't disclosed on the Steam page.

Also why is there no FOV slider in the game? That is like one of the most basic functionalities of an action shooter game. Especially considering the fact that you are probably going to be surrounded pretty often.

There is currenly no Ultrawide Support.

The PvE mathcmaking is terrible. You are not allowed to duplicates of any class, and yet the game pairs you up anyway.

All in all, the game has tons of potential, and I like it. At the current moment I would probably give it a 6/10, possibly a 7/10 if you are very interested in Warhammer or find the combat to be a good fit for you. With some fixes and added content (of which there exists a roadmap) this game could become an 8/10 or possibly even a 9/10. If you want some brutal action and you want to play with your friends I would recommend this game.

Edit: I will change my review because the community is toxic as hell.

One of the best RPGs no question.

Also as a sidenote, if you ever wanted an introduction to Dungeons and Dragons, whether it be the lore or how to play then this game is a very good start!

The fact that you cannot edit or change downloaded liveries or tunings makes me frustrades. Heat did it way better.

The game is great! Sony are idiots. I hate the fact that I have to connect my steam account to a PSN account to be able to play after May.

Edit: We have won! Sony will not be going forward with the PSN account linking! I will change my negative review to a positive one. I will be keeping an eye out in the future for more shenanigans though!

Edit 2: The reason why the game has gotten so downvoted as of late is because Arrowhead refuses to listen to their community. After promising to not nerf any more weapons they immediately turn around and nerf the flamethrowers 2 days before the latest warbond comes out, which is mainly about flamethrowers. I will not turn my review to negative because I believe that they can still fix this. But if time passes without any real changes, then I will also change my review.

TLDR: Get the game. It is great!

The game has a lot of potential, but it isn't worth neither your money nor your time with the state the game is currently in. Look at it again in a year or two, and it might be worth it.

I don't hate this game and if I could I would give it a mixed review. It plainly comes down to this: They didn't do anything better than Darkest Dungeon 1, just different and worse.

The game looks terrible and requires upscaling to run well. So if you are using a 1080p monitor you are ♥♥♥♥ out of luck.
