One of my favorite games of all time. I played the classic version for years before the EA release and have over 3000 combined hours.

If you like building, optimizing, and experimenting then I highly recommend giving this a try.
If you enjoy a challenge, don't enjoy one (very customizable difficulty settings), or like watching explosions (be they your own or the enemies), I recommend giving it a try.
If you like competing in multiplayer, there's an active community for it.
If you want to fill your game with mods, that's supported.
If there's something that isn't possible but you want it to be, it may very well be added in the future, and the dev is very open to feedback.
If you need help, the community is very supportive. I recommend joining the Discord server.

When I first bought the game a few years ago I was overwhelmed by the learning cliff, and abandoned it after a couple hours. I came back to it a few months ago and was pleased to find that it wasn't as hard as I expected. Given, I come from the Cosmoteer community (check it out!), which means I have previous experience with playing ship-building games.

Once you learn the basics you're free to build pretty much anything you can imagine, and use it in the campaign mode against a host of interesting factions. If you're into making things that look nice there's plenty of ways to do that. If you like building things for PVP, there are usually multiple tournaments going on.

Overall, I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes building games and has time to spend.
