I'm chuckling over this one a lot.... I'd considerthis one more a comedy with a a yuri undertone, but maybe I just haven't read enough of them yet...:) There's a bit of seeming inconsistency in the artwork....as the expressions on Arare's face seems to express serious "I'm in mortal danger!" fear rather than "Uh oh, I'm about to be horribly embarrassed!" panic. It makes the tone of the book a tad confusing to me. Granted possibly being torn apart and eaten by your classmates is a bit more to be worried about than that you might be suspected of being 'weird' and sociallly ostracized. Or maybe not in the Japanese high school culture....lol

Well, that (bold in quote) would be why she feels danger and and fear for life, and why her expression is sometimes that of fear rather than embarassment. :P
I didn't find it to be out of place when I read but it's been a while now so maybe I'll read it again. :P

Well, the events described in the manga occured 7+ years ago so maybe it was different at the time?
I don't know really, never visited 4chan, I've just heard bad stuff about it.

I have however read similar stories, while not based on real events like this one, I'd assume it's based kind of on how some people act on 4chan.
From what I gather from reading these manga's it seems like if the thread is fun, they will sometimes ask the thread starter to try various things, like what happened with Medley, leading to Medley ultimately actually changing her profile name on 4chan to "Mesdorei", meaning a Message Slave in the end, since she always listens to what the people posting tells her to do.

One other story that is.... kind of similar but so very different in other aspects (Including that this one is not based on real events) is "Past Future", it's a trap manga (yes, I'm a fan of these aswell if one haven't read my profile info box) and in this one the story goes how a boy starts getting into crossdressing.
His sister thinks it's disgusting and wants nothing to do with it, so the guy consults an online board (most probably 4chan for various reasons) about getting her sister to accept his crossdressing, and then comes the posts about making him try various things.

But yeah, I don't know at all really, but to me it seems like, at least at the time this manga was set, people enjoyed this. :P

As for no word from them, meh, Medley rarely tweeted or posted in her blog in the first place, there was a tweet and blog post every now and then but certainly not often.
Her last blog post where she mentions stuff about landing her dream job, the 7 year anniversary, her fight with Husky, among other things, she points out in the end that she just wanted to share this because it's obviously a very joyeus day for her, so she wanted to, after a long time, post about it.

Is it really? Is it like series TV out of Hollywood, where every seadon ending has to be written as though it's the last show...? Or is it a self-censorship thing, where once things turn sexual, even though for many it may be what they were waiting for, they stop things so it doesn't get accused of being pornographic...?

Nah it's just that the manga runs for so long that they gotta cut it short, I guess later volumes don't sell enough?
So they cut it short to end it.
Or that the mangaka just gets bored of writing it so decides to end it faster.

I don't really know the exact reason why, but I figure it would be either of those reasons, don't quote me on it though. :P

Yep, been waiting since I heard about it a while back, I haven't played the demo nor have I dug around too much in the news, nor in the discussion board, I want to know nothing while I play. :P

Another week, another discussion, this time about "Heart-Pounding Excitement at Mononoke Girls' Academy"!
Personally I really enjoyed this one first time I read it, really funny seeing Arare interact with the various "obake", from ones commonly seen in anime and manga, to ones you don't often see, like the 'Akaname' named Pero, never heard of a 'Akaname"' before, but she was hella funny. xD

And then we have the cute "Nekomata" Kiri, she's got that really cool yet cute angle. :P

Anyway, enough of that...
I felt the ending was sadly a bit rushed, happens more often t han one would want, happened to 'Girl Friends' too, I have a feeling that the kind of ending we'll see in 'Miss Sunflower' aswell.

I agree in that being a real story made it sweeter. Love this kind of things.
That's one of the reasons because I love Mangan&Danai, because is based in the real life of the author... and because is super cute and fun.

Anyways, remembering Huskey and Medley is nice. I think that I will read it again soon.

Wonder if they are still together.

It's time for the discussion thread of this wonderful manga!
The manga, which was written by Kurosada is, just in case you missed it, based on real events.
It's based on threads on a 4chan board posted by a girl in high school who wanted to know her classmates weakness, she went by the name Medley, or Mesdorei (Message Slave?).

Now, gonna be honest and say, partly why I absolutely adore this manga, is because it's based on real events, it's just really sweet.
The art isn't great but honestly, I didn't care one bit when reading this manga, it serves it's purpose well enough.
What I would love to know is, do Husky and Medley know that this manga was written? Did they help in any way?
I read Medley was interviewed at some point but can't find the interview, the website that had the English translation before is down, and no idea how to search for the Japanese one, so I may never know. :P

Anyway, great manga, I honestly can't really say much about it, seeing as the manga is based on a real couple, which is why I was kind of not sure if I should feature it but I decided to anyway, it's a great manga and I love their story.

And Medley's twitter comments are fun, but hasn't been posted in for two years. xD

I got a event notice about this thread, which confused me a little. Were we supposed to get in chat to talk about it? I didn't see anyone online, so I started searching for it. I first found only the most recent chapters, which lost me completely. I'd never heard of otaku culture for one thing. Finally I hunted down the sries from the beginning and suddenly it clicked.... Hey! It all makes sense now! :)

As someone who was part of Nerd culture LONG before it became cool, I very much understand Akina and Kaede 's meshing/failure to mesh. I still remember what it was like being a trek/comic book fan at a mainstream SF convention....or meeting and trying to befriend the only other comic fan at the con and finding out that telling her I liked "Superman the Movie" was to her the social equivalent of throwing up on her shoes.

Needless to say I like Kaede a LOT. Akina strikes me as intlerant and superficial, but in a lovable highly forgivanle way, being such a fish out of water here! I'm not into the supporting characters yet, because I've only read up ti chapter 4 so far....anda few skipped around chapter at thr Comic Market... and I'm loving it!

As someone who hates getting caught reading anything inappropriate.....I so identify with Akina's give and take with her older brother. My roommate has the unconscious psychic power that makes her wander through my room on her way to a smoke break anytime I'm looking at anything embarrassing. The greater the potential embarrassment, the greater the likelihood she'll wander through...

What with timezones and so on. :P

Personally I've never had experiences like this so hard to live myself in it but can kind of see how it could be hard, Akina wanting to share more of her own hobbies, like clothes and all but fails to bring it up, talking with someone who seemingly doesn't care much.
And all the while Akina keeps trying to "cure" Kaede of her "otaku problems" while unconciously getting sucked in and enjoying it herself, it's bound to be a mess. :P

Kaede would probably be my third favourite in the manga, she's cute and I just love her character! Akina would be my second favourite, I just find it cute how she's always trying to "cure" someone of something while getting sucked in to enjoy it herself, while it is kinda douchey when one think about it, she does it in a way that just makes you forgive her.
And when she blushes she's too cute. hoho.

And that feeling a lot of us probably know, not just roommates but parents too. :P
They always seem to walk in at the most embarassing moments lawl.
Good thing I now live alone hoho.
