What is a Realism? Realism Explained Here.
If you're new to the game, you may have joined a server and found yourself in a state of sudden confusion and panic, as you are yelled at by every player in the server to return to spawn! Fear not, this thread will inform you on all there is to know about "Realism" and how to not get banned on your first time playing.

HOW IT WORKS
  • When the server reaches roughly 14-18 players, an announcment is made on various Steam community groups that a game is taking place.

  • After 5 minutes, players are notified that the Realism is about to commence. A server admin will initiate the Realism script (plugin) by calling "!init" in the chat.

  • All players are then spawned on the Allied side.

  • Players will be lined up and commanders will be chosen.

  • Teams are picked.

  • An admin will call "!start" in the chat to activate the Realism script.

  • Defenders set up, attackers make a plan of action.

  • "!live" is called once the defenders are ready.

  • The battle begins!

RULES
  • Attackers must stay in spawn until "!live" is called.

  • Defenders may not travel past the allocated mid-point of the map (Unless counter-charge).

  • Respawning is disabled until the round is over.

  • Commanders are required to have a working microphone.

  • Friendly Fire is not tolerated! (Unless it is a genuine mistake).

  • Voice commands should not be spammed.

  • Trolls/Griefers will be banned.

  • Respect to other players should be shown both on text and voice chat.

  • Listen to and obey your commander!

  • Follow server rules.

  • Respect admins.

That's all there is to it! Act sensibly, listen to your commander, and you should be just fine.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Here are the answers regarding to all your questions or concerns about the mod!

Q: How do I install the mod?
A: Go to http://www.moddb.com/mods/ww1-source/downloads/wwi-source-113b-full-installer and click 'downoad'. Let the installer do the rest.

Q: Why doesn't WW1 Source appear in my Game Library?
A: Restart Steam!

Q: When I join a server it says I have different class tables. Why?
A: That is because you have downloaded the wrong version of WW1 Source. The correct version as of September 2010 is 1.13b!

Q: Do people still play WW1 Source?
A: YES! You will often find servers with a couple of players on it. However, if you're looking for a big game with a large amount of players, subscribe to a WW1 Source clan group on Steam! They will announce when events occur.

Q: Why can't I see any servers?
A: Check your search filters and remove, if any. Still can't see servers? Restart Steam.

Q: Are there any servers with a steady population?
A: Yes and no. WW1 Source's player population varries depending on the time of the year. July-Sep & Dec-Feb see the most traffic on the mod due to obvious reasons. The server that sees the most traffic during these periods is the 3rd Marine Division, who have built up a solid fanbase over the past 3 years.

Q: When does the WW1 Source 2.0 update come out?
A: When it is finished! The developers have not been specific with the release date, but it has been assumed that it will be finished by Summer 2013.

Q: Where can I get more general information on the mod?
A: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WW1_Source
