A freak is also an abnormal fanatic, a person (obsessed with something) - in the modern sense — a person distinguished by a bright, unusual, extravagant appearance and/or possessing defiant behavior, as well as an extraordinary worldview as a result of rejection of social stereotypes. Freaks stand out in a separate subculture.

Also, freaks are often called people who are strongly, often excessively, passionate about something, enthusiasts, various heretics openly professing any religious aspects in their own way, greatly going beyond the generally accepted framework.

The modern meaning of the word appeared in the 60s, in the context of the emergence of the so-called "freak subculture", the "freak scene" that united politicized post-hippie pacifists and fans of rock and psychedelic music far from politics. In this sense, the word "freak" can be used both as an insult and as praise, including in relation to the speaker himself

It also means a strong attachment, obsession with a certain type of activity, for example: "He's such a neat-freak" or "You're a singing freak"
In addition, a "freak" can be called a person who has had a large number of sexual relations. In pornography, "freaks" are called especially sex-obsessed individuals, as well as those for whom sex is the meaning of all life.
