September round discussion - put in your vote
Hello,

following the new round discussion we had on the chat, l am opening a thread for the entire discussion of what are we going to do with September round.I invite all of you to participate, contribute and vote.This discussion will help us determine what to keep and what to change.

So far, I have recognized the need to discuss the following, but feel free to challenge more aspects if you think it is necessary:

-Map seed (size and monuments)
-Decay

1) So far, majority has agreed on the map size; it needs to be larger than the current one due to an obvious population increase and fast exhausting of resources.Some people reasonably complained about the monument selection on current map, so the next one will definitely feature the return of sphere and trainyard/powerplant (likely both).It seems that majority dislikes airfield and would rather keep radtown and dishes.

Suggested seed is 6738, which is live on VTest (secondary) server.Here is the map of seed 6738 below:

*Hovering over icons will give you the name of monument (if icon is unclear)
*If you have seed of your own to suggest, one that fits the preferences mentioned above, feel free to post it.I will be adding few more suggestions definitely.

2) There has been some talk about whether should we disable decay.I would suggest disabling it for multiple reasons, but main one the fact that we often mentiond "community built places". These may be hard to maintain due to their larger size.It is a very open subject to tackle and there are so many things to take in account, so feel free to point out what do you think about this one.

*If you feel that more aspects need to be discussed for the new round, feel free to state it.

I've explored the map a little on the test server and so far it seems to have a good size, diverse biomes and all the interesting monuments. On the decay issue I'm a bit torn. From a community build perspective I do agree it would be easier to maintain, on the other hand, derelict structures would fill up the landscape if their owners decide to leave the server.

I haven't tried the test servor but well for me something a bit bigger would be nice like 3*3 at least this one is a bit crowded.
In matter of the decay i got the same point of view as mike. If no decay the map will be full of useless old building but in the other hand decay is a bothering when you play regularly.

Mike I will have to look later to see if the issue with crates spawn has been resolved.Or if there was an issue in the first place... The seed suggested in initial post is sized at 3100 and while navigating around, it really gives a feeling that you are in a large place.We will suggest more seeds probably, but this one seems to be perfect for now.

I share the same thoughts on decay thing but new seed has plenty of monuments, plenty of flat surfaces and cool spots and I do think regular players will be there on day one.It will probably become a little crowded in the second half of the month, that is if population keeps increasing, but if it does not, there will be a lot of unused space on the map.

I did not check that map but it sounds like a right candidate.We definitely need a bigger monument like trainyard, water or power plant AND sphere ball.Sphere ball is a monument that no server can do without.Maybe kick out airfield ? I don`t hate it but it uses too much space and is just a place for KOSing...

Decay... why don`t you just hammer down all houses that are clearly broken into ? Like every unsealed object that stays unsealed for a few days, hammer it down.Or let it be there until someone says "I want that spot!".It sounds like a good idea too.I know every server wants more objects to be noticed, I like the idea of community places like your huts and stuff too.Some kind of balance should be found for the decay thing.There is still time.


I want to ask two more things;

1.Language; some people can clearly speak English and they partially do, but while they are in mid of raid, they switch to another one.If English is "preferred" then why not keep it as the only acceptable language ?

2.Put griefing under control ? Its beyond pathetic.These French players have destroyed my large furnace (who does that ?!) and guy laughed on chat and said he was just trying his beancans...

One more thing crossed my mind... helicopter.Do we really want him ? Is there a way to reduce/shorten his patrol or maybe even kick him out ? He wastes our time greatly.Larger map and more monuments means even longer patrol.

Gonth, I actually like your idea about decay.An abandoned house in a demanded spot can be cleaned out on request.That does not sound bad.And yes, we can definitely drop the idea of community places if decay is on, because maintenance will ruin it.People need to worry about own bases the most and maintaining several objects of significant size is too much.Some kind of "balance" is necessary to satisfy no decay vs filled landscape.

As for your other three questions;

Language - I believe we solved that on the chat already.English is and always will be preferable. If one needs touch with admin, it`ll be English.If someone speaks their own, let it be.As long as they are not violating any of the chat related rules, it is okay.

Griefing - punishment and strike back are your options.Me doing anything against someone who does it will be me stepping over my boundaries.If you want griefing out, you will need alternative solutions.I hate to see it happen too, but...

Helicopter - yes, there is a command to modify his patrol length as well as to entirely disable him.If you guys want to vote heli out, feel free to do so.

Heli needs to be... I don`t know.It just makes me waste some minutes.Maybe you should shorten his duty at least.

EDIT: Try the 1823134 seed also.

I will investigate shortening his minutes and report back.Regarding the seeds, the first one I am not sure what size is the map, please if you are posting seed number include the map size.Seed numbers can be same for different map sizes.

As for the other three with URLs:

1) Looks good.Interestingly it has a few islands, could serve as a good large base spots.It has all necessary monuments.The only disappointment is vast north area that only offers a water treatment area.

2) May well join my test seed as the best candidate.Islands, good amount of flat space and all necessary monuments, all well positioned.No water treatment area to fill the space and airfield is positioned down in the corner (if someone still wants to go there)

3) Has more islands than the other two, but seems to have way too many mountains.Especially in the likely demanded central area.

I would say 2>1>3 in my opinion.Second one is pretty good, I will test it more.
