Actually that's not true. They took maps and the character from Left 4 dead 1 into left 4 dead 2 however the gameplay is still different. Still has the left 4 dead 2 special infected/gameplay. They are still 2 different games. There's also a lot more that you can do in the first game

Left 4 Dead 1 merged with the second game a few years ago I think? I really don't know what's up with that. I do like only having to install the one game, rather than the two different games seperately.
