Issues with the Current Warning System
Issues with the Current Warning System
This topic is not to bash anyone or insult anyone this server has wonderful staff and I mean wonderful, yes at times I don’t get along with them but that’s life. The staff uses a warning biased system as you are most likely aware of, but this system is fundamentally flawed in a few ways. That’s what I’m going to talk about and again this isn’t to hurt anyone’s feelings it’s just to inform the staff, the owner, and anyone else who reads about the problems I see I feel like a lot of people experience, so let’s get into it and improve this server together.
The main topic is the warning system really. It’s broken in a few ways, such as the unfair punishments, the time it takes to remove warnings, and more severe offensives are punished like normal rule breaking. There are more issues I’ll admit, but let’s fix one thing at a time. I’m not the only one who thinks the current system needs tweaking for sure.
The first problem is unfair punishments you shouldn’t be perma-banned for RDMing (Random death matching) 4 people (accidently) over a week. That’s insane there is no logical reason you should be banned forever… for making a simple mistake 4 times over 7 days especially if you play a lot people is far too easy for a perma-ban. Now you may say if it’s accidental you can make an appeal well people don’t want to type a paragraph of what happened because they accidently killed someone. Though if they don’t it’s a ban forever and what if they wait a week and it goes inactive well if you have 8 warnings that are inactive it’s a week ban that’s far too long for any normal mistake.
Secondarily there is the issue with how long it takes to remove an active warning but even then you’re not safe. Currently it takes a week to remove an active ban (remember it takes 4 active bans to perm-ban you). After a whole week or 168 hours it turns to an inactive warning now if you have 8 or more inactive warnings you will be banned for week. Inactive warnings stay forever they can be a month old a year old. The well train staff of course will tell you, you can make an appeal to remove a ban that is “old” this time is not defined. So really you have no idea when you need to appeal this warning that stacks. Not to mention appeals in reality should be done as soon as possible, because that is when you remember the events best people don’t know what they did wrong a year ago. So to fill out an appeal forum is extremely difficult with this stacking system.
Finally we have the more severe offensives are being punished like normal rule breaking. This really isn’t acceptable due to the fact, that rdm and mass rdm isn’t the same thing. You don’t do mass rdm on accident though its treated as if it were are normal accidental rdm. It’s not people makes mistakes mass rdm isn’t a mistake it is preemptive. That’s just one example of many and I think that should definitely be fixed, even if that means giving mods temp-bans to stop mass rdmers from wreaking havoc.
Now what do I suggest first off keep the warning system it’s a good system and it helps the mods and admins keep track of the problem children as it were, but tweak it so make punishments lighter and get rid of the 4 warnings in a week perma-ban situation. By raising the amount of warnings you can get before you are banned or by decreasing the time it takes to make them inactive warnings. Furthermore I suggest making it a week ban not a perma-ban (the ban time of course would go up with each infraction.) I also highly, highly suggest getting rid of the inactive warning bans. They are inactive for reason and you should treat them as such. I also suggest giving people week bans for mass rdm instead of just another warning.
P.S. First off Thank you so much for reading this. Please feel free to ask any questions you have on the subject and I would love to hear and further suggestions and ideas you guys have on this subject. If you wish I can make another more flushed out suggestions to fixing these problems. again thank you for reading and have a fantastical day.

You bring forth some excellent points that I am sure we will discuss at the next meeting, we are always trying to improve the experiance people have here at Unity Gaming. for the most Part I do agree that some of our rules need improvement and we are always seeking to improve them.

I agree that our rules and warning system don't always make sense in some situations. There are times when the rules can't always give us a straight guideline to follow.:gmod:

Monster - As I believe the whole "Karma lose to gain" ratio being flawed is very true, but think about borrowing someones game and not giving it back, they will be iffy on letting you borrow another game. If you take two games and not give them back they probably wont even let you borrow a third. This means you have to work pretty hard on getting their respect back, which is kind of like the karma system. If you have issues with the karma you can message any staff member and we can get a Junior Admin (If the staff isnt JA already) on the fix it. And where as changing something on the server to fix the ratio, im pretty sure we can't. Where as I used to run a DarkRP, I'm not super familar with TTT, in the aspects of changing the hard wired game mode. But what I'm trying to say is that you can't go in and change this karma ratio. It's hard wired into the game mode, and you can't change the game mode, just add to it. I hope this clears things up. And if I'm wrong please tell me. :frankie:

For me I believe its mostly rdmer's that kill karma, if there are two in the game you have a pretty high chance of losing hundreds of karma and maybe even getting banned. Though, i do think the karma ratio is fine, it can screw some people over.
