My stats during the teleportation attack:
Assassin
S: 6
C: 4
L: 4
F: 0
G: 2
Objects: Concealed Pouch, Potion of Strengh (not inside the Pouch)
Followers: Riding Horse, Colossus.
Opponent:
Courtesan
S: 2
C: 4
L: 2
F: 2
G: 3
Spells: 1 (didn't use it)
Objects: Staff of Mastery (empty)
Followers: Hag.
I have no idea why the Courtesan keeps attacking me. She wants the Pouch? But she cannot get it anyway. Or she wants to kill the Assassin? But even if she rolls "6", and I "1", I will win the battle...
It seems the Courtesan (and perhaps all AI players) keeps ignoring the fact that she has the Hag and cannot have any Followers. She also keeps ignoring the fact that the Hag is a bad Follower, and she should get rid of her ASAP.
=========
The Courtesan keeps the Elixir of Might since a while now and doesn't want to use it.
===
Also, she again selects more trophies to exchange them into extra attributes than she should.
==
I again was forced to fight the Sentinel after killing the Lord of the Pits and trying to enter the Inner Region.
This situation.
I have auto killed the Lord of the Pits and moved to the Inner Region (and in the meantime also killed the Sentinel.......). Then I've decided to go to the Middle Region, and the game forced me to kill the Cerberus.
But then, the game forced me to open the Portal of Power.... Even though I already was coming from the Inner Region and I didn't desired to go back there.
Look at this log.
First turn I drew the Trapper. An "Auto Lose" button has appeared, so I clicked it. Then I was able to pick up the shield.
At the log we can see that the winner of the battle was Trapper, and not me. And I clicked the "Auto Lose" button. Yet, the game considered that I won that battle and even gave me the Trapper as a trophy.
Obviously something wrong is with the "Auto Lose" button.
===
Also,
For the Trapper's ability I rolled "6" and "1", yet the log states that I relled just "6".
===
Also-also,
The log states that the AI is a Toad. I played the "draw 3, choose 1" Homebrew mode.
* Encounter
* Don't Encounter
(I'm not a fan of negative wording in UI, I'd rather see a word describing what the button does, not what it doesn't do)
Or
Encounter?
* Yes
* No
Or perhaps the choose action screen could be displayed straight away with 4 options:
* Encounter square
* Gain one spell (note "one")
* Heal 1 life (note "1")
* Teleport to any other space in this Region
BUG?? Maybe? I think I saw the Dark Minion not get offered the chance to Send Spirit when Auto-Kill was an option. Not 100% sure, wasn't paying full attention. All okay. No players in my region.
BUG?? Seems like I'm double/triple-clicking the RHS Action buttons (End Turn etc) a lot more this build -- the buttons don't seem to register a click as soon as they did, has something changed?
Maybe it's because I haven't had a coffee today, but the button click thing is really frustrating. EDIT: Really, really expletive annoying. I'm clicking 5 or 6 times sometimes before the button registers the click. Grrrrr!
EDIT2: Try stealing something or buying from a shop and click the <- and -> arrows. Expletive me it's painful. 10 clicks to scroll one card (apart from the first).
EDIT3: Earthquake. Expletive expletive expletive. The card was already not very fun, but with this build's lethargic responsiveness it's just a kick in the balls. It takes 5-6 seconds per card. Not happy. DO NOT RELEASE THIS BUILD.
EDIT4: to make it clear: as soon as the RHS Call To Action buttons are visible they should be clickable. Clicking should have priority over animations or timeouts or whatever's going on. The User knows what they want to do, application is there to facilitate that, not be a barrier.
EDIT5: Even the Trophy choosing screen doesn't like clicks. Is something broken in your double-click algorithm? Two rapid clicks are only a double-click if the mouse is in the same area, if the mouse moves a sufficient amount it's two single-clicks. Eg GetSystemMetrics(SM_CXDOUBLECLK) and GetSystemMetrics(SM_CYDOUBLECLK). Also, it's only some controls that should respond to double-clicks, things like buttons should process double-click and single-click messages with the same code.
EDIT6: upon reflection, maybe it's your network code? You've maybe extended your timeouts? Totally not necessary for single-player games if that's the case.
EDIT7: ahh.... spacebar does not suffer this problem. Maybe I'd use it (and the other hotkeys) -- but there's no documentation. Repeat after me until you are a believer: "An undocumented feature is a liability, not a feature". Based on that I'd say it's your mouse event handling code that has issues -- my guess is it's related to the (wrong!) single click-and-wait behaviour. Presumably you start a timer on a single-click (or save the current time) and ignore subsequent clicks until the timer expires. I'm guessing this code is a mess; that's because the design is wrong. Single-click selects, double-click performs the action.
FEATURE REQUEST: when there's only 1 card to choose from (when choosing an opponent etc) can the 1 card be pre-selected? Why make me click? Or just select the first card; at least 1/n% of the time you'll save an unnecessary click.
SETTINGS: Why do SFX/Music volume increment by 10? Why not 1? If there was a % sign it'd make sense, but because it's unitless incrementing by 10 is bizarre.
MY COLLECTION: Characters, alphabetical or release order, pick one.
Achievements get reset if you rage-quit and try a die-roll again. I'd like to say somebody told me that.
HEX & DISPLACMENT
If there’s nothing else than the Hex Spell on the board, I shouldn’t be able to cast the Displacement Spell – my game has frozen.
GENIE: I just auto-killed a Troll on a square with an object (Ring). After I auto-killed the troll the Genie card flashed up for a second before the Ring appeared -- it looked odd. Maybe it was the "woo, you've won" animation -- seems unnecessary in this context.
GENIE: When trading in points all 3 options are glowing (Trade for Craft, Trade for Strength and Dismiss (is this a new convention, typically we'd see Cancel -- I prefer Dismiss. I think). THis means I have no idea what will happen if I press Spacebar.
Only one of the 3 options should be glowing -- the one that will react to Spacebar (the game is unplayable with mouse at the moment)
I'd also argue Trade for Strength should be first and default -- it's the most useful thing to do in 90% of circumstances. App should encourage winning :-)
HMMM: Maiden (Take Follower/Leave Follower Here) also has both buttons glowing. Has there been a change WRT to glowy-glowy or have I not paid attention to this until now? (I've seen a few other ones now. I think it's a change, I can't believe I haven't whinged about it until now -- or maybe it's only because I've been forced to use the keyboard that I've paid attention).
GENIE: Kudos to whoever programmed the Genie's trade-in behaviour -- it works well when Craft and Strength have different trade-in thresholds. (I don't always complain :-)
GENIE: Just realised I can trade mixed Str+Craft at the same time. Genie is a game-winning monster!
KEYBOARD: You need to make a decision about keyboard support -- is it a feature or not. If not pull it out and kill it. If it is, make it a first class citizen -- I should have keyboard control, at least, for a typical turn. This includes a way to choose all options on the RHS -- AFAIK I can only press Spacebar to choose the default glowing option.
Something obvious like A, B, C or 1, 2, 3 or A, S, D, F (ignoring i18n issues for now) with on-screen mnemonic hints would do the trick. Or... add focus rings and enable Tab/arrow key support (eg mimic a Windows dialog). This would probably be a bitch to implement at this stage.
Oh, and document the bloody keys somewhere! Add a "Controls" option to the Spanner screen. Doesn't need to be customisable, just a list of keys. I shouldn't need to go to a website to learn how to play.
RANDOMNESS: Is it just me, or when re-rolling Fate, I seem to get the same result as the first roll about 9 times out of 10 (I am 100% certain this is not a bug, just my dodgy human brain's perception of events).
DICE WITH DEATH: No visual feedback to indicate a stand-off or defeat. Or victory, for that matter.
AI: I'm on the Valley of Fire in First-To-The-Crown-Wins mode. Assassin (S6 C10) enters Plain of Peril and next turn runs away. Should be FTW, not WTF.
LEADERBOARD: how on earth does it decide what to display when initially loaded. It's just weird.
Because I've played a gazillion games of Talisman DE I've been trying new strategies. What I've discovered is the Potion of Strength is fantastic. If you have a Talisman and Str 6 or 7 (some Fate doesn't hurt) just go for it. Save the Potion for the The Crypt -- Str 8/9 means the odds at the Crypt are under 50%, throw in a Fate and they're over 50%. From there it's plain sailing (average of 3d6 is 10.5, in case you weren't brought up on D&D). My point here is the AI is too Timmy (he's a little lamb...).
And can you post a new release with the mouse fixed, please? I'm going insane.
FEATURE REQUEST: more stats in the Leaderboards. It'd be interesting to click on a name and find out more about a person's playing style. Arguably personal information, so maybe it's a post-Snowden issue. Regardless aggregated stats would be fascinating. Which character wins the most. Which AI character is best. Typical stats at end. Which ending. Number of players. Toad.
FEATURE REQUEST: House rule: Toad cannot be avoided by Fate. All praise the hypnotoad.
BUG?? On the post-game screen with the progress bars, spacebar does nothing.
DESTRUCTION: i've no idea how I made this card work. I clicked about 2^16 times with both buttons, zoomed in and out. Click-and-waits. Double clicks. Quick clicks. Long clicks. I nearly rage-quit it's so obtuse.
BUG: after casting Destruction on the Demon at the Portal of Power the yellow-it-might-be-a-selection-indicator-glowing-indicator remained -- it was not pulsing, it was stuck in a dim yellow.
BUG/GENIE: Trade for Strength should be before Trade for Craft (I mentioned this earlier, now i'm convinced it's a bug). This is because Strength is always referenced first on a character card. When you describe your character's stats, it's always Strength X, Craft Y. Therefore, the UI should change to enforce that convention. Alphabetical order is not appropriate in this case.
BUG/MERCHANT/GENIE: My Genie was transmogrified to Evil by MestaphotshowdoIspellthis a while ago. Now the Merchant has landed on me and given me the Holy Lance, which should not be possible because I'm E-vil.
Actually, generalise that request: all spells that have some form of interaction should indicate what's going on -- whether that's at the top, or perhaps it should be in the Information pane down the bottom of the screen -- add the complete spell text. Or display the card somewhere. Lots of options. All of them better than the current lack of feedback.
FEATURE REQUEST: bring back Shift+F for super-fast AI turns. Or increase the effect of choosing "10" in the Advanced Options screen. I want to *play* the game -- the longer the AI takes the less involved I am. Generally I've been playing 2 player games just so I'm engaged more frequently.
I can't be bothered to try network games again until I hear it's fixed, I haven't had a single completed game.
BUG: I now suspect this happens if you quit via the Windows Close button (red X) in Windows mode rather than digging through the menus. If this is the case, it should be an easy fix.
CANCEL: When you pick up a stack of stuff from a dead character it's weird:
Objects: Take Object / Leave Object Here
Followers: Encounter / Cancel
Which one makes it clear what's going to happen, and which fills the user with dread? Does "Cancel" mean "Abandon this stack of cards, I've got the good stuff" or does it mean "I'm done with this card."
How about we have some consistency? It's not hard, you just need to be rigorous and have an eye for detail (and some empathy with end-users, which is missing in this case).
Followers: Take Follower / Leave Follower Here.
Easy!
Generically you need to review every instance the word Cancel is used and make sure you use it correctly. Mostly, you don't.
It's possible the word "Encounter" is incorrect according to the Talisman rules (you Encounter a square IIRC) -- my copy is in another room, and I'd rather rant than get some facts to back me up :-) If that's the case, review every use of the word "Encounter" as well.
BUG: House Rules screen. Can't deselect "The first player to reach the Crown of Command wins". To repro (using the mouse. Is there a keyboard interface? Who knows, and who would use it?)
1. De-select Classic Rules (red). Select Reaper (green). Click House Rules.
2. Scroll to bottom. Select the No Grim Reaper radio-but-should-be-a-checkbox-button.
3. Now, carefully scroll "The first player to reach the Crown of Command" radio-but-should-be-a-checkbox-button into view but not the ALL CAPS heading.
4. Try clicking the "The first player to reach the Crown of Command wins!" radio-but-should-be-a-checkbox-button. BUG. Nothing happens.
If you scroll "RACE TO THE CROWN" into view you can click the "The first player to reach the Crown of Command wins!" radio-but-should-be-a-checkbox-button.
BUG: the wording of the NO GRIM REAPER option on the House Rules screen is confusing because it's a mix of positive and negative language combined with a positive-selection control (a check... uh radio button). It's also inconsistent with the positive-wording in the other options.
NO GRIM REAPER
Requires Reaper pack ON
Play without the Grim Reaper figure ( )
Why the glum face? Let's be positive.
GRIM REAPER
Requires Reaper Expansion enabled
Play with the Grim Reaper [X]
Couple of things there. Firstly, I use "Reaper Expansion" instead of "Reaper pack" because I can see words Reaper Expansion on the screen (next to Classic Rules). Next, I find the word ON confusing combined with the negative wording. ON is also all caps, and frankly, who uses the word ON when they mean Enabled or Selected?
Finally, we de-select the thing we're disabling, rather than select the thing we're disabling. Because that makes sense.
Radio Button[en.wikipedia.org]
Check Box[en.wikipedia.org]
BUG: Can't choose "No Runestone" in a Runestone slot. I think I've raised this before. Can't recall. Can I have direct access to your issue tracking system? :-) I jest. A little.
Why would you want to help another player?
1. My Wizard defeated Lord of the Pit in Psychic Combat @ The Portal of Power (of course)
2. AI Exorcist cast Resurrection (the bastard).
3. I did not oppose the spell (rats)
4. "Standoff" announced the game (boo)
5. I took Lord of the Pit as a trophy (sweet)
6. Lord of the Pit is dead (bug).
BUG?? Mousewheel does nada on XP Leaderboard.
