Debian 9.0 SteamOS. When?

Dont't forget to "sudo update-grub" after the change.

Despite not having Nvidia. I'm running a 290x I'm having this messages in dmesg.
[ 422.245950] NVRM: No NVIDIA graphics adapter found!
[ 422.245978] NVRM: NVIDIA init module failed!
[ 619.649215] NVRM: No NVIDIA graphics adapter found!
[ 619.649243] NVRM: NVIDIA init module failed!

In my case, using AMD gpu, there's no messages while installing. Just a black screen.

SteamOS recent changes borked upgrades.

First, the updates are done at shutdown or restart, but when updates are happening there's no indication on the screen that an update is in progress, only a black screen, so we have no clue what's going on.

Second, this particular update have the problem you described. A mail icon with the instruction to restart. You restart and there's the same icon.
This is due to mesa upgrade not installing. So you have to go to terminal and first type "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade".
Follow this steps and SteamOS is fully upgraded now.

SteamOS drivers are very outdated. Newer version of AMD driver offer better performance and bug fixes.

As the topic says. Black screen screen but I can hear the game sound. It runs fine on desktop mode.

Install alsa-utils, and run alsamixer to set the sound volume. Do a little search on the forum, there's all the instructions for it.

After a couple of updates, date and and time of last update shows steamostimeupdate at steamostimeupdate instead of the actual date and time.

Steamos ships with 331.20, the latest non beta is 331.38.
